Applications are invited from dynamic and motivated individuals to work in this well-equipped Cellular Pathology department, which processes approximately 35,000 samples per year, providing essential services to the Trust and the wider health care community.

We are seeking a Senior Biomedical Scientist with a strong Cellular Pathology technical background in a UKAS accredited laboratory. You will have excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills and your work will ensure that the department continues to deliver a high quality, timely and effective service, where patient experience and safety is central.

The role will require the post-holder to be flexible and highly organised, able to align their values with those of the organisation, have the ability to delegate effectively and to work as part of a team with a 'can-do' positive attitude.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be the departmental Training Officer. Experience with training and development of Biomedical Scientist and support staff (including the IBMS Registration and Specialist Portfolios) would be advantageous.

They will also be joint section lead for the main laboratory section (incorporating tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, H& E staining and digital pathology when it is implemented in 2025).

They will also take an active role in Quality Management and Health & Safety.

The Cellular Pathology Department is in an exciting period of service development with implementation of a new LIMS and a Digital Pathology solution.

Person Specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • oMSc or equivalent in a related discipline oIBMS Specialist Diploma in related discipline or equivalent oBSc (Hons) Biomedical Science (or alternative qualification approved by HCPC for registration) oRegistration with HCPC oCommitment to CPD


Desirable

  • oAny relevant further qualification e.g. management qualification oDemonstration of CPD


Experience and Knowledge Required

Essential

  • oScience/laboratory background oMinimum of three years' experience as a BMS in a UKAS accredited laboratory oTraining knowledge and experience oUp to date knowledge of specialist areas of relevant discipline oKnowledge of COSHH, SOP's and Trust policies and procedures


Desirable

  • oProduction of SOPs, COSHH and risk assessments or other policies oExperience as an IBMS or NVQ assessor oSpecialist experience in a particular area


Skills and Attributes
