We have an exciting opportunity for highly motivated, hardworking, patient centered individuals to work within the Infectious Diseases Ward at RSCH as a band 6. You will be putting your years of experience as well as your high level of knowledge and skill to use helping to provide high level care to our service users. Infectious diseases ward - Luisa Martindale building - B6 ward consists of 24 side rooms, 8 of which are negatively pressured enable as we are equipped and prepared to care for highly contagious patients. We pride ourselves in maintaining infection prevention within the ward. The unit also house the Infectious diseases clinic attending to patients with various acute illness , this includes TB clinic, Covid Medicine Delivery unit (CMDU), Rapid access Infectious diseases ( RAID) and Infectious diseases outpatient clinic . The Infectious diseases unit has been made as the regional centre for Infectious diseases services covering the South coast The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the ward manager in leading the Infectious diseases ward team to ensure the delivery of high standard of patient's care in line of clinical governance.They will have the responsibility of the effective management of the ward promoting the environment conducive for development and succession planning of the nursing team.

Main duties of the job

We welcome applications from those who currently hold a UK NMC registration. If you currently hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship we are not currently direct hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses.

The post holder will be based in the clinic and inpatient ward, supporting the Ward Manager/Charge Nurse in providing clinical leadership that ensures quality of patient care, effective management of human and financial resources, communication, staff development and clinical practice which meets the ever changing needs of people affected by infectious diseases. The post holder will play an active role in maintaining communication and liaison across the Infectious Diseases multidisciplinary team. The post holder is required to undertake any training required to fulfil the job role.

Job responsibilities

The senior staff nurse will be responsible for supporting the ward manager in

leading the Infectious diseases ward team to ensure the delivery of high standard of

patients care in line of clinical governance.

He/she will have the responsibility of the effective management of the ward promoting

the environment conducive for development and succession planning of the nursing

team. You will be responsible on a shift to shift basis for the safety of the patients within

the Infectious diseases B6 ward including the timely discharge arrangement of the patients. This will require you to deputise for the ward manager in his/her absence.

Person Specification

Qualifications / Experience

Essential

  • At least 2 years experience in Acute ward/ infectious diseases ward
  • Leadership skills/Supervisory experience
  • ENB 998 or mentorship or equivalent


Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in infectious disease/Clinical Infection
  • Relevant teaching and assessors course.
  • Management certificate / Counselling skills
