You will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for young people with serious mental health issues and / or complex emotional / behavioural difficulties in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team. You will supervise the work of junior staff, ensuring the highest possible standard of care in accordance with policies, procedures and legislation. You will participate in clinical supervision and have an active role in the development of the multi-disciplinary team, including participation in the education programmes of students and others.
Main duties of the job
To assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and therapeutic interventions for young people that will assist in recovery and rehabilitation and develop daily living skills.
o To receive and provide clinical supervision.
o To supervise, monitor and support unqualified staff within the unit and ensure their compliance with policy.
o To actively participate in multi-disciplinary meetings and contribute to clinical decisions regarding young people within the unit.
o To promote and facilitate involvement of young people in their care.
o To manage caseloads effectively, making the best use of time and resources and ensure that any unresolved issues for young people and their families/carers are identified and referred to the appropriate personnel.
o To act as a positive role model for young people in the unit and support them to achieve their full potential.
o To develop and ensure evidence and research based practice in own work with young people and their families.
o To maintain clinical skills in accordance with best practice guidance.
o To contribute to the development and maintenance of a therapeutic environment for young people.
o To contribute to staff development by undertaking the role of mentor or associate mentor to student nurses as directed by the ward manager.

To ensure an accurate bed occupancy state is available by maintenance of information held on the NCRS system computer for each patient on the ward, to include admission referrer, Area PCT, transfer, suspended leaves and discharge.
To contribute to the monitoring, maintenance and development of standards in order to continually develop service quality.
To carry out duties assigned by the unit management team. Education and Development
To participate in programmes of personal development based on agreed objectives. To participate in the teaching and assessment of students allocated to the unit and in conjunction with other disciplines ensure their development needs are met.
To be involved in preceptorship and mentorship of colleagues.
Maintain a professional portfolio of personal development and assume an active role in self-development and CPD.
