An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Maternal Medicine Team - For a band 6 Maternal Medicine Midwife. You should share our passion and drive to ensure that our patients receive quality and compassionate care.

The post holder will be centred on clinical and service development within maternal medicine. In conjunction with the maternal medicine lead consultant and associated multidisciplinary teams they will support the implementation of effective care pathways for pregnant women and birthing people with complex medical conditions. key focus on addressing inequalities in all aspects of care.

Working in collaboration with the individual woman/birthing person and the Yorkshire and Humber Maternal Medicine Network, the post holder will assess, plan, implement and coordinate the maternity care pathway. You will assist in MDT care planning, organise clinic sessions, and conduct antenatal and postnatal ward reviews for inpatients. You will provide expert, specialist knowledge and resources for the high-risk women during their pregnancy, childbirth, and the post-natal period, including education to women, their families and health professionals.

Main duties of the job

  • To develop specialist skills and knowledge in maternal medicine over time and to a standard that prepares the post holder to perform with a level of clinical skill and autonomy required for a specialist midwife in maternal medicine.
  • Provide a link between midwives, general practitioners, health visitors, obstetricians, physicians, specialist nurses and other agencies in relation to women's care.
  • To provide midwifery input for specialist maternal medicine antenatal clinics (renal, cardiac, endocrine, haematology, chronic hypertension, gastroenterology, rheumatology, epilepsy and general maternal medicine)
  • To help with triaging and managing the maternal medicine email inbox.
  • To participate in the running of the midwife-led Chronic Hypertension telephone clinic and the midwife-led Hypothyroidism clinic.
  • To liaise closely with the Maternal Medicine Network team.
  • To participate in regular local and network maternal medicine MDT meetings.
  • To provide continuity of care to women with maternal medicine problems who are admitted antenatally, intrapartum or postpartum.

The maternity unit has over 6800 births per year and is a Regional Tertiary Maternity Service with a Level 3 Neonatal Unit of 44 cots. A tertiary Gynae-Oncology service and a changing Gynaecology Service, which includes an Assisted Conception Unit, complete the services within the Directorate.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 12 months due to the post being recruited as part of a limited term project within the Trust. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the requirement for the post to be maintained as a part of the projects implementation and the timescales associated with this.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Midwife
  • Awareness of professional responsibilities
  • Mentorship module or equivalent (SSSA)
  • Knowledge of current midwifery issues.
  • Ability to teach
  • Commitment to self-development.


Desirable

  • Educated to a degree level or equivalent with evidence of further professional development.
  • Registered Nurse


Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrate a wide range of established midwifery knowledge and experience within antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods
  • Evidence of dealing with difficult situations
  • Ability to prioritise own workload.
  • Evidence of a commitment to professional development
  • Demonstrates knowledge of evidence-based practice
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the assessment process for students and of creating a positive learning environment


Desirable

  • Be computer literate
  • Has practised midwifery in the community setting
  • Evidence of teaching and mentoring
  • Has knowledge of performance review.
  • Experience working with women with maternal medicine problems
