Junior Sister / Charge Nurse

This is an exciting opportunity to join our hardworking and dynamic nursing team in the Emergency Department where every day is different, and always something new to learn. Here at SFT we have both adult and paediatric services. We are a Multidisciplinary team with our own Advanced Clinical Practitioner and Emergency Nurse Practitioner team.
This department is currently undertaking a new build with a new, innovative Emergency Village being built!

Main duties of the job
As a band 6 sister/charge nurse in the Emergency Department you must be able to follow polices and procedures whilst keeping patients safe and prioritising the work load of different areas effectively . You will be expected to coordinated all areas of the department from RAU to resus whilst assisting and supporting junior staff.
It is essential that you have skills such as cannulation, plastering, catheterisation , IT skills, triage and ILS. Be able to recognise a deterioration patient and escalate effectively.
As a band 6 sister/charge nurse you would be expected to act as a role model and share knowledge to both junior staff and students, and be prepared to work alongside the band 7 senior sisters/charge nurses in managing a team with in the department and sharing knowledge.

Be a visible & accessible presence in the clinical area for patients, relatives & staff.
Lead by example & act as a positive role model taking responsibility for own professional development.
Ensure effective communication is maintained both within the Dept & with relevant external agencies or individuals.
Organise own workload & adjust priorities in response to issues arising in the workplace.
Recognise & respond to issues which require urgent or immediate attention, reporting to other members of the multi-disciplinary/ management team as necessary.
Deputise for the Department Manager as required.
Ensure comprehensive clinical records are maintained.
Support the management of roster allocation to provide safe staffing levels in line with the agreed workforce model.
Ensure the provision of compassionate, safe & high quality care of all patients & supervise the working of junior staff & trainees during the span of duty.
