We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in MSK Outpatients to join our team at George Eliot Hospital as part of the Outpatient Therapy team.

Our friendly department is full of opportunity for a dynamic, enthusiastic physiotherapist who wishes to progress specialist clinical expertise and leadership skills within an MSK outpatients setting. This post would be based within our Hospital site and would include a wide variety of patient presentations with referrals from Consultant clinics, GP practices and multidisciplinary team.

We are looking for an experienced Band 6 or current Band 7 Physiotherapist, with keen interest in the field of MSK Outpatients. You will have a wide range of clinical experience, good communication skills, interpersonal skills and passion for delivering excellent patient centred care.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 7 Specialist Physiotherapist the post holder will be responsible for performing advanced assessment and clinical reasoning for patients with diverse presentations and complex musculoskeletal conditions, to develop and deliver an individualised management/treatment programme. Following assessment, the post holder will be responsible for making therapeutic and/or clinical diagnoses and treating their own caseload of specialised and complex patients/clients and maintaining associated records.

While day-to-day running of the team will be performed primarily by the team leader, the post-holder will be expected to deputise and be responsible for this when necessary. Clinical leadership of the MSK Outpatients team will require the post holder to display leadership and management skills where appropriate for this role. The post holder will supervise and support the work of other junior staff and support workers. The post holder will assist the MSK Team Leader in contributing to the planning, coordination, development and evaluation of the service. Together with other senior staff, you will act as a resource of specialist advice to the rest of the therapy service and other professions

Job responsibilities

As a specialist Physiotherapist you will work closely with the MSK Team Leader and Advanced Practice Physiotherapists to ensure that our patients receive an excellent level of clinical care. As part of your role, you will initiate and participate in service development, audits and in-service training. You will have close support from the Band 8a Deputy Therapy Manager for Outpatients and work closely with the well-established multi-disciplinary team.

We offer a comprehensive induction package followed by regular in-service training including case study sessions, journal club and peer support group alongside regular supervision sessions. Internal and external courses are supported, and opportunities for postgraduate study exist. Our established appraisal system facilitates career development and progression.

Person Specification

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Extensive postgraduate experience training/working within specialist area, minimum 5 years' experience
  • Excellent advanced knowledge of the management of patients within specialist area
  • Experience of clinical education of less experienced staff (including students)
  • Evidence of participation in audit/research


Desirable

  • Experience working within the NHS


Qualification and Professional Training

Essential

  • Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy
  • Master's Degree or equivalent in relevant specialism (or working towards one)
  • HCPC registration
  • Post-Registration training/experience in specialism


Desirable

  • Membership of specialist group
