East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) is seeking a dynamic and skilled Senior Strategic Improvement Lead to drive our Making Time Matter Programme.

This vital role involves working closely with the Associate Director for Strategic Improvement, playing a crucial part in designing, leading, and implementing strategic projects aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness and patient care.

As a champion for the programme, you will be instrumental in positively influencing colleagues and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and engagement.

Your leadership will inspire participation in improvement processes and development opportunities across the Trust, helping us achieve our vision of transforming patient care and operational efficiency within the wider healthcare ecosystem.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role include:
  • Strategic Leadership and Implementation: Lead critical initiatives within the Making Time Matter Programme, ensuring alignment with ESNEFT's strategic goals and broader healthcare objectives. Develop and deliver programme outcomes that provide significant quality and financial benefits, adhering to organisational targets and standards
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Influence: Serve as a primary ambassador for change, engaging and building consensus among diverse internal and external stakeholders, including healthcare partners and patient groups. Effectively navigate complex environments to secure support and inspire active participation in programme initiatives.
  • Operational Planning and Support: Offer comprehensive strategic planning and management support to the Associate Director for Strategic Improvement. Adapt strategies to evolving circumstances and ensure seamless integration of new processes with existing operations. Establish clear objectives, milestones, and performance measures to effectively track and realise the strategic vision.
  • Project Management and Reporting: Develop and oversee detailed project plans, charters, and reports, ensuring projects meet set milestones and performance indicators. Implement robust monitoring mechanisms to assess project performance and take necessary corrective actions to ensure successful delivery.

Job responsibilities

  • Leadership and Development: Chair project groups and lead organisation-wide workshops to build capabilities in continuous improvement methods. Mentor and coach staff, fostering a culture of innovation and sustained improvement throughout the organisation.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Prepare and present high-quality presentations and reports on project progress to boards, committees, and key stakeholders. Develop strong collaborative relationships with other change leaders to ensure co-production of initiatives that align with the highest standards of care and operational efficiency.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant subject or with the equivalent professional experience
  • Experienced in the use of a variety of change tools and methodologies.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Formal qualification In leadership


Desirable

  • Formal qualification in improvement methodology e.g. Kaizen, LEAN


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of delivering large-scale, complex change programmes and projects within the NHS and be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of how system partners work
  • Experience in working in a senior role within an acute trust
  • Leading transformation projects at organisation and system level
  • Experience of leading workshops and project groups
  • Experience of working in a complex environment
  • Experience of presenting to large and small groups
  • Negotiation and influencing skills at senior management level


Desirable

  • Delivering significant financial / productivity efficiencies through process improvement
  • Senior line management experience of operational or clinical teams


Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of health service management, including experience in change management
  • Knowledge of national change initiatives


Desirable

  • Knowledge of the ESNEFT vision and clinical strategy
  • Knowledge of the local system
