We are looking for a Clinical Physiologist to join our friendly Neurophysiology Team.

The Neurophysiology Service holds a current IQIPS Standard, (Improving Quality in Physiological Services) from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).

Our department has a pleasant and spacious working environment with state of the art diagnostic equipment. The department is led by the Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologists Dr Lwin and Dr Thura, supported by two specialty doctors, operations manager, clinical physiologists, physiologist support and admin staff.

The successful candidate will already have experience in performing the above tests on a wide range of patients, including children and neonates.

Main duties of the job

The Neurophysiology Department is based at Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax, West Yorkshire and provides an extensive range of highly specialised neurophysiology diagnostic procedures for patients of all ages from a range of specialities. Neurophysiology investigations include EEG, EMG, Nerve Conduction studies, evoked potentials, and home telemetry.

We undertake a variety of investigations for a range of specialties, in the department, wards, ICU and SCBU. We have a busy direct access service open to GP referrals.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To assist in Consultant/Speciality doctor led Nerve Conduction/Electromyography clinics.
  • To run independent EEG, EEG sleep and ambulatory clinics.
  • To learn how to independently perform Carpal Tunnel/Ulnar nerve NCS screening.
  • Take and record a full patient history prior to each investigation and following this if necessary, modify the plan/procedure to achieve the best outcome for the patient.
  • Work collaboratively on a day-to-day basis with others to contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the service.
  • Provide support and assistance to Neurophysiological staff in dealing with difficult and conflicting situations including those that are of a clinical/professional nature.


Person Specification

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

Essential

  • BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology (Neurophysiology) or equivalent
  • Registration with RCCP (or a willingness to register)
  • Is proficient/ has experience of EEG modalities, routine, Sleep deprived and melatonin induced, ambulatory EEG
  • Portable EEG on the wards including ICU and SCBU

  • Eligibility for the ANS Membership

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to foster multi-disciplinary working
  • Adherence to recognised standards
  • Analytical and problems solving skills


KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

  • Broad experience in clinical EEG
  • Evidence of direct patient facing experience
  • Ability to develop and maintain working relationships where there may be conflicting demands and timescales
  • Experience of working to and achieving tight deadlines
  • Evidence of CPD
