An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, passionate and highly motivated Lead adult safeguarding professional to join the team at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). The successful candidate will join a forward thinking skill mix team of experienced safeguarding professionals.

The post holder will also have the responsibility to provide highly visible strong professional leadership to inform the strategic and operational direction of the Safeguarding Adults agenda.

As a tertiary centre, the GOSH safeguarding service works closely with agencies across the country and abroad, as well as with local partner agencies, providing excellent internal and external opportunities for learning, professional development and networking.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide and promote an expert leadership role to support GOSH, within the safeguarding adults portfolio in line with corporate responsibility and national guidance and legislation.

The post holder will lead on championing parity of esteem to enhance practice, with Trust colleagues.

Academic/Professional qualification/Training

Essential

  • Registered Nurse, Midwife, RMN or SCPHN with current NMC registration or Social Worker with current SW England registration
  • Master's degree/higher qualification or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of ongoing, dynamic continuing personal and professional development
  • Completion of a management/leadership training programme or willing to complete
  • Completion of a Safeguarding Supervision Course


Experience/Knowledge

Essential

  • Extensive statutory case management experience of cases with complex, professional, and ethical issues.
  • A track record of leading and managing innovative and different delivery mechanisms within health settings
  • Evidence of providing senior leadership in a health or social care setting
  • Experience of working positively with staff from other agencies and an understanding of and an ability to work with diverse cultures, expectations and priorities
  • Experience of the selection, recruitment, training, and supervision of staff
  • Excellent knowledge of policies, statutory regulations and guidance relating to safeguarding, LD, Prevent and Parity of Esteem
  • Experience of working with CYP and adults with long-term health conditions and disabilities.
  • Evidence of participation in governance, including undertaking audit and review.
  • Evidence of competence in understanding the Mental Capacity Act/Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (MCA/DoLs) and proposed implementation of LPS


Skills/Abilities

Essential

  • Demonstrable evidence of leading teams, with a transformational change management approach to enhance the service
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team.
  • Ability to gather information quickly and effectively to inform decision making.
  • Able to demonstrate a working knowledge in standard setting, quality management & benchmarking.
  • Able to contribute to developing, delivering, and evaluating high quality learning packages.
  • Articulate with highly developed communication skills, including negotiation, networking, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage complex situations effectively and sensitively
  • Ability to remain calm and focussed under pressure, maintaining a positive and caring approach.
  • Excellent organisational skills including an ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer literacy skills
  • Self-aware and reflective of own practice


Desirable

  • Good understanding of the principles of budget management and control or willing to learn
