The Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) team are looking to appoint an experienced nurse to join them in supporting the care delivery to this patient group. The role will require working 37.5 hours per week, which will be week day working. The team require a nurse who can work autonomously to support lifestyle and symptom control clinics, support the nurse and doctor lead ILD clinics and maintain the telephone support service that we provide for patients. The role involves caring for ILD patients throughout all stages of the ILD patient pathway.

The nurse will be experienced in working autonomously, but also able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. The specialist nurse will have teaching commitments to both patients and their relatives.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide clinical leadership, demonstrating expert nursing knowledge and advice to the multi-disciplinary team, promoting and maintaining standards of professional practice that enhance the quality of care for patients, carers, and relatives. The post holder would participate in and develop nurse telephone clinics, Attend Anywhere clinics and face to face ILD clinics. The role will involve using clinical skills, assessing, reviewing and monitoring ILD patients. You would be contributing to and attending the ILD multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTS) acting as patient advocate. You would assist with the management and monitoring of the ILD nurse helpline providing support, advise and education to ILD patients. Assist advise and educate junior team members manning the nurse helpline. Develop skills in assessing patients for both long term and ambulatory oxygen, selecting appropriate modalities and prescribing oxygen.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualifications and Professional Registration Registration with NMC
  • Degree in nursing supplemented by post graduate diploma, specialist training, or short courses to masters equivalent or equivalent experience
  • Teaching and assessment qualification or equivalent
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Willingness to undertake clinical skills coursePost basic course in Respiratory/Cardio thoracic nursing or equivalent experience.

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post-registration clinical experience.
  • Knowledge and in depth understanding of the ILD patient pathway and managing patients who then require surgical intervention.
  • Recent experience as a Band 6 in a management/leadership role.
  • Audit and/or research in clinical area.
  • Able to perform all nursing activities specific to specialty.
  • Staff management & appraisal
  • Able to problem solve, use own initiative and plan, organise and prioritise own and others' workload.
  • Able to facilitate and support learning.
  • Proven communication skills
  • Knowledge of NMC Code of Conduct and professional practice guidance, clinical governance, and quality
  • Awareness of broader issues in the Trust, the wider NHS, and an understanding of the professional nursing agenda
  • Understanding management and leadership theory and practice, together with people management procedures
  • Aware of cultural and social influences on health and of the importance of respecting diversity and differences
  • Up to date knowledge in clinical practice specific to the area
