Owing to retirement, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced occupational therapist to join a newly established senior team providing leadership to the neurosciences clinical pathway within occupational therapy.The role will suit an individual who wishes to progress their career and develop operational leadership skills whilst maintaining a clinical caseload.
Applicants will require significant experience at a senior level within a neurosciences specialty. There maybe the option to work flexibly, either full or part time, although a minimum of 30 hours per week is required..

Main duties of the job
The role will support the head of service in all aspects of professional leadership and management for service delivery and will be responsible for the management of occupational therapy team leaders, ensuring a positive and productive interface with the clinical division.
The neurosciences pathway includes the specialties of Stroke, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neuropsychiatry and Neuro-oncology. North Bristol NHS Trust is the regional centre for neurosciences, providing specialist services for the south west of England.

Job responsibilities
- Provide effective clinical leadership and service management within specialty area, working with the Head of Occupational Therapy to deliver a high quality, safe and cost-effective service.
- Support the Head of Occupational Therapy in all aspects of professional leadership and management for service delivery, deputising when required.
- Be an integral part of the occupational therapy senior leadership team, working collaboratively with the Head of Occupational Therapy and wider therapy leadership team to assist service development and implementation of strategic organisational objectives.
- Be responsible for the management of Occupational Therapy team leaders, ensuring a positive and productive interface with the clinical division.
- Ensure service delivery is managed within agreed resources, relevant legislation, national and local policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines, taking responsibility for quality governance within specialty area.
- Provide specialist input and professional leadership to the specialty area in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of the Occupational Therapy service.
- Act as a clinical Occupational Therapy expert practitioner in own specialist area, working as an autonomous and highly skilled clinician, without supervision.
- Be accountable for own professional actions associated with managing a caseload of patients with complex needs.
- Use evidence-based principles and best practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate clinical interventions.
- Act as a specialist resource both within and outside of the Occupational Therapy service.

Work Experience

- Wide ranging post registration experience as an occupational therapist, including having held senior position in relevant specialty
- Experience in leading and completing audit and evidence-based projects
- Experience of supervision and appraisal of occupational therapy staff and students with ability to give constructive feedback and manage performance.
- Evidence of actively participating in in-service training and presenting to large MDT groups, undergraduate and postgraduate staff and evaluating effectiveness of training
- Evidence of leading change management and service development/innovation
- Experience of leading recruitment
