We are currently recruiting for band 5 nurses to work on our thoracic surgical ward, to care for mixed thoracic surgery patients and respiratory medical patients. The patients we care for are any age above 18 whom have a range of illnesses including lung cancer, chest wall cancer, plural effusion, rib fractures, pneumothorax and airway conditions. These cases are nursed on the level 2 post op ward base area.
This fast paced mixed respiratory ward will give you the opportunity to develop your clinical skill and gain competencies in HDU nursing including care of arterial lines, blood gases, chest drains, complex airways, nerve blocks, epidurals, pain management and so much more.
The Thoracic Surgical department is one of the largest Tertiary Thoracic units within the UK serving a population of 6 million and covering the Greater West Midlands region.
We are looking for nurses who thrive within a fast paced environment with the ability to cope under pressure, with the help and support of senior staff.
Main duties of the job
We receive support from our acute 'outreach' nurses, and also have a number of specialist nurses within
the specialty who assist with the care of these patients. QEHB is a fast growing trust which values the
education and professional development of its staff, the surgical wards are educationally supported by a
professional development nurse helping to ensure all staff are trained in an appropriate and timely
manner to suit their individual requirements.
There will be opportunity for additional support to function within this role by attending the HDU study day amongst other courses provided.
We are a dedicated team with the drive and resources to deliver high standards of care to all our patients.
Good team work and communication is essential as we work with a mixture of specialist nursing teams,
medics and therapists.
