The Trust is seeking a consultant psychiatrist for thenational CAMHS Deaf inpatient unit, Corner House based in Springfield Hospital . The post is advertised as a locum in the first instance pending substantive recruitment
This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic and dynamic consultant psychiatrist to join this dynamic, multicultural and bilingual service. Corner House provides a range of therapeutic options including inpatient treatment Monday to Friday, extended assessments as well as a day programme for up to 6 adolescents aged 11 to their 18th birthday who are deaf, hard of hearing or are hearing but come from Deaf families and present with severe mental health problems. The service is the only inpatient unit for deaf children and adolescents in the country and in Europe. It is part of a wider National Deaf CAMHS and receives national referrals throughout England and is directly funded through NHSE.

The post holder will join a dynamic and rich MDT composed by a Clinical Psychologist, a Speech and Language Therapist, an OT, a Senior Social Worker, an OT technician, the Ward Manager, qualified nurses and HCAs. A school is attached to the CAMHS Campus and within this there is a dedicated team of qualified Teachers for the Deaf and Teaching Assistants.

Main duties of the job
- Participating in joint assessments of the children and adolescents referred to the unit, with particular focus on psychiatric assessments, including risk assessments, and treatment plans for young people referred to the service.
- To develop effective and evidence-based care plans with colleagues working in partnership with young people, parents and carers.
- Co-ordination of multi-agency packages of care, treatment and support for children and young people and their families with complex problems.
- Provision of consultation, advice and appropriate support to professionals in the wider network of the child, young person or family.
- Providing clinical leadership to the MDT.
- Ensure that policies and procedures are implemented to safeguard and protect children within the service and throughout the CPA process
- Participate in training of medical students, psychiatric trainees and multidisciplinary staff. This will include clinical supervision of specialty doctor on the unit.
- Attend and take a lead in clinical meetings as timetabled (ward rounds, mental health act review/tribunals and CPA meetings).
- To act as Responsible Clinician for young people detained under the Mental Health Act.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Essential
- Primary Medical degree.
- Full GMC registration
- MRCPsych, or equivalent
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register for CAMHS or other psychiatry speciality (with relevant clinical experience) or eligible for such inclusion on the Specialist Registrar within six months of completing their CCT.
- Section 12 (2) approval of the Mental Health Act
Desirable
- Qualification in a talking therapy such as CBT, DBT or MBT
- Qualifications in change management and service development skills
KNOWLEDGE: & EXPERIENCE:
Essential
- Excellent knowledge in specialty, especially the assessment and management mental health disorders in child ren and adolescents.
- Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
- Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
- Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
Desirable
- Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service.
- Experience of working in an inpatient setting.
- Experience of working with people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- British Sign language Qualification
- Training in specialist assessments tools, e.g. 3Di, ADOS etc.
