Do you have experience of working in Stroke / Neuro and are looking for a new challenge?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our Stroke Therapy Team.

Within this role, you will take part in providing specialist rehabilitation and care to Stroke patients on the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit and in the patient's own home, as well as involvement in stroke reviews.

Our multidisciplinary stroke therapy team uniquely covers 3 areas, including Early Supported Stroke Discharge (ESD), a 16-bed inpatient unit (8 stroke and 8 complex medical rehabilitation beds) and the Stroke Review Service for the whole New Forest and surrounding areas. The role is based within the Stroke ward at Lymington New Forest Hospital.

Successful candidates will take part in 12 monthly rotations between the ward and ESD. They will participate in our IST programme, supervision structure, service development and our weekend rota supporting our 7 day a week ESD service.

Ideally candidates will have a minimum of 2 years stroke/neuro experience, but those with less experience will be considered and there is potentially an opportunity for the role to be a developmental 5 to 6 post.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide effective evidence based care to stroke patients and their carers within National and local guidelines.
  • To be able to carry out key holistic stroke patient assessments.
  • To provide stroke specific knowledge and skills within the stroke services and to the wider organisation.
  • To participate in completing 6 week and 6 month stroke reviews for all stroke patients within area.
  • To share the responsibility of covering a 7 day rota, covering from 0800hrs to 2000hrs, often involving changing duties at the last minute in order to support staff leave and sickness.
  • To rotate between the Stroke Rehab unit and the Community Stroke Team.
  • To assess and treat own caseload, which may include complex presentations and to maintain own records as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To support the Community Stroke Team coordinator with referrals and planning. May involve making autonomous decisions regarding accepting patients and organisation of caseload.
  • To contribute in the education and supervision of junior colleagues, assistants and students.
  • To support Band 7s in daily management of the team and provision of therapy service, deputising for the senior in their absence.
  • To contribute in development and maintenance of an efficient and effective Stroke rehabilitation service.
