Main duties of the job
Key Result Areas & Performance:
Provide professional engineering expertise for the sites to other estates staff, Directors, Senior Management, other internal customers of the organisation and provide advice and direction to external agencies where appropriate, at site levels.
Deputise for the Director of Estates and Facilities as required.
Manage the performance of external contracts relating to engineering functions (including PFI's in conjunction with Head of Contracts & Performance) and build and develop an effective supply chain of responsive and innovative suppliers who are able to provide cost effective specialist services as part of the LGT engineering and maintenance service.
The post-holder will lead on key areas of technical and estates management through directly employed staff, partner/contractor organisations, and PFI's, in conjunction with the Director of Estates and Facilities ensuring engineering maintenance and projects on all sites, including contract work, is carried out to appropriate standards and specifications and in accordance with Health and Safety and LGT standards and processes.
The role takes overall responsibility for delegated areas and provides a structure and process for the effective interface with all project activities to ensure that appropriate communications, safety arrangements and operating procedures are in place, and are timely and effective.

Accountable to the Director of Estates & Facilities, the post holder will provide technical operational leadership and strategic direction for all engineering, infrastructure (including fire) activity undertaken on acute and community-based sites.
Supporting the Director of Estates and Facilities in the development of long-term strategic objectives both for preventative maintenance and asset protection, capital and project programmes and the back-log programme, overseeing execution of these plans.
The postholder will provide professional engineering expertise for all the Trust sites to other estates staff, Directors, Senior Management, other internal customers of the organisation and provide advice and direction to external agencies where appropriate, at site levels.

Essential
- Professionally qualified at 1st Degree level plus Masters level or equivalent experience in an engineering or appropriate technical subject.
- Corporate /full membership of one of the following institutions: oI Mech E oIEE oCIBSE oIHEEM
- Qualified to chartered status plus significant proven relevant specialist experience at a chartered senior engineer level.
- Post graduate management qualification e.g. MBA or equivalent
- Extensive current knowledge and experience of implementing Health & Safety legislation related to engineering operations and projects in a significantly large organisation.
Desirable
- Formal Health and Safety qualification i.e. Nebosh
- Formal Project management qualification - e.g. Prince
- Financial Management qualification

- Substantial experience of operating in a senior management role and delivering an engineering service at a senior level in a large, complex environment.
- Previous experience of developing and implementing both commercial and operational strategies.
- Extensive in-depth demonstrable success in delivering change and performance with and through management teams, by engaging them in the strategic direction and delivery plans.
- Comprehensive expert technical knowledge relating to mechanical and electrical building services in commercial/ industrial or health buildings.
- Substantial experience of managing large complex engineering systems including management of revenue and capital budgets.
- Fully conversant with the statutory land legal requirements that impact on building owners and occupiers.
- Demonstrate a good knowledge of budget/financial Management.
- Substantial staff management experience which will include managing directly employed staff and external contractors.
