An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 0.6 WTE permanent position as a Band 8b Clinical Psychologist with an interest in working in a lifespan amputee service. This post will provide psychological support for adults and children within the amputee service.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist with an interest in Clinical Health Psychology who can show autonomy and resilience.

It is essential that the post-holder will have a doctorate level of Clinical Psychology professional qualification and be registered as a HCPC practitioner clinical psychologist

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role will involve working closely with the Amputee team to offer psychological care to those children, young people and adults within the Amputee service. You will work with children, young people and adults through consultation to staff, direct work and by attending multi-disciplinary clinics. This work will include psychology assessment and input prior to planned amputation and following planned or unplanned amputation.

Analytical and Judgment Skills

Essential

  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including both quantitative and qualitative methods.


Desirable

  • Knowledge of complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology


Planning and organisational skills

Essential

  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS/HCPC
  • Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to distressing situations
  • Ability to identify, and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice


Communication and Relationship Skills

Essential

  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the patient group and mental health
  • Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings


Desirable

  • Experience of working within a multicultural framework
  • Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care


Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level (or equivalent) training, as accredited by the BPS
  • HCPC registration as a Practitioner Clinical Psychologist
  • Completion of further post qualification specialist relevant training, including training in the supervision of trainee clinical psychologists
  • Training in 2 or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan/developmental psychology


Desirable

  • Post-doctoral training/study in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice e.g. trauma, pain management etc
  • Post-qualification accreditation in particular psychotherapeutic approaches e.g.: cognitive behaviour therapy, ACT, Mindfulness, EMDR, etc.


Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment with people with medical and physical health conditions
  • Post qualification experience of working with children and families
  • Experience of working with a wide range of client groups and presentations
  • Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care co-ordinator and within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team, with other disciplines including medicine and nursing
  • Experience of providing supervision and consultation to other clinical staff including psychologists.
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision


Desirable

  • Experience of working in acute hospital with patients with medical/chronic health conditions
  • Experience in working with challenging client groups (e.g. people with multiple physical, social and psychological problems, or people whose health is seriously compromised by inabilities to adhere to medical treatment)
  • Experience in the psychological assessment and preparation for people considering/needing complex medical and surgical interventions
  • Specialist experience of working with life limiting conditions, pre and post-transplant, body image, chronic pain and/or rehabilitation
  • Experience of developing and delivering training courses for varying lengths
  • Experience of delivering ACT, Mindfulness and/or Compassionate Mind Focused groups for health issues.


Physical skills

Essential

  • Ability to move between a number of locations within the hospital in a working day. To work across both City and QMC campuses as required.


Desirable

  • Ability to work flexible hours to suit the service and its clients

  • Up to date immunisations are required (including TB, HepB)
