This is an exciting opportunity to join SWAG Cancer Alliance and champion driving out inequalities in our population and ensuring meaningful patient/carer engagement is at the heart of all we do.
Cancer Alliances are unique. We are the primary vehicle for delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan ambitions for cancer. By collaborating across organisational boundaries, we put the patient at the heart of what we do. In other words, creating a culture and systems which empowers people to do the right thing.
We are looking for an engagement and inequalities lead project manager to ensure we address areas of inequalities to improve patient experience and embed patient and public engagement at all levels of decision making.
Please note provisional interview date of 14 August, and interviews to be held in Bristol or Taunton.
Main duties of the job
You will work as part of a dynamic team supporting the delivery of effective cancer services across the SWAG Cancer Alliance.
The role provides leadership to the SWAG Cancer Alliance for Patient & Public Engagement and inequalities programmes.
You will ensure meaningful engagement with patients, the public and partners including addressing areas of inequalities to improve the quality and experience for cancer patients across the SWAG footprint.
This includes:
Develop and implement an agreed SWAG Cancer Alliance engagement and inequalities strategy including activity and communication plans in partnership with all stakeholders.
Lead and coordinate the alliances approach to inequalities working with all programmes and systems to develop an alliance strategy.
Developing, co-ordinate and support the SWAG Patient & Public Forum.
Lead and develop a plan to support the recruitment of patients and the public and ensure representation from underrepresented groups (BAME, Seldom Heard and marginalised groups and those with disabilities).
This is a Macmillan funded role and as such you will work in collaboration with Macmillan Cancer Support ensuring regular reports/review are provided. The postholder will act as an ambassador for both Macmillan Cancer Support and the SWAG Cancer Alliance.
We are looking for someone who hasextensive experience of working in a patient engagement and/or inequalities administrative or clinical role.

The postholder will work as part of a dynamic team supporting the delivery of effective cancer services across the SWAG Cancer Alliance.
The role provides leadership to the SWAG Cancer Alliance for Patient & Public Engagement and inequalities programmes.
The postholder will ensure meaningful engagement with patients, the public and partners including addressing areas of inequalities to improve the quality and experience for cancer patients across the SWAG footprint. This includes delivery of transformational change, quality improvements, and added value using effective and sustainable approaches, within and across organisations.
This includes developing, co-ordinating and supporting the SWAG Patient & Public Forum.
The post holder will maintain a network of Patient & Public Involvement and inequalities across stakeholder organisations and participate in national groups representing the SWAG Cancer Alliance.
This includes managing and overseeing specific SWAG Cancer Alliance led projects (including staff) relating to Patient & Public Involvement and inequalities.
The postholder will work collaboratively with Macmillan and other key stakeholders.
This role will involve complex negotiation and influence with senior service directors, clinicians, managers and commissioners at both an operational and strategic level across the geography.
The post holder will have the ability to think, act and respond quickly to changing circumstances whilst maintaining a clear view of overall priorities. The ability to work at a senior level in a cross-cutting multi-organisational setting, identifying joint aims and objectives facilitating organisational and culture change and the delivery of outcomes is vital to the success of this role.
The role supports the business of driving transformation as well as value for money in planning, commissioning and service.
The role is designed to build a combination of subject matter expertise and technical skills to develop a strong service delivery.
The role will champion the importance of and lead on developing and delivering a work programme that achieves the aspirations of the Cancer Strategy and Long-Term plan relevant to Patient & Public Involvement and inequalities.
The post holder will lead, develop and implement the agreed SWAG Cancer Alliance engagement and inequalities strategy including activity plans in partnership with all stakeholders.

- 1.Educated to master's level or equivalent
- 2.Evidence of relevant and recent continuing professional development.
- 3.Extensive experience of working in a patient engagement and/or inequalities administrative or clinical role.
- 4.Experience of leading project management design, development, and delivery of change management/quality improvement.
- 1.Demonstrable experience of working in complex change environment with multiple stakeholders and securing their engagement, to deliver successful project outcomes.
- 7.An understanding of local and national health policy and broader strategic issues and implications within the NHS e.g., NHS Long term plan, CORE20PLUS5, cancer access and performance standards.
- 8.Leadership ability to influence staff at all levels to ensure project objectives are owned and delivered by all members of the team including users and senior stakeholders.
