We are looking for motivated Registered Nurses or Midwives to support the School Nursing Service in Solent NHS Trust delivering the Healthy Child Programme. The Healthy Child Programme (5-16) focuses on school aged children and young people up to the age of 16 years and our service delivers this to those in mainstream education and home education.
We welcome applications from all Registered Nurses, Adult, Child, Mental Health, Learning Disabilities, and Registered Midwives.
Previous experience of working with children and families is desirable, but not essential. You will need to have a full driving licence and access to a car to travel around the city.
We are passionate about staff development, and we would be supportive for the right candidate to undertake the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) course in School Nursing which is offered in Solent NHS Trust.
Flexible working options can be considered.

About us
We have been working with other local NHS Trusts to create a new organisation, bringing together all community, mental health and learning disability services from across Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Subject to approvals, the aim is for the new Trust to be formed by the end of 2024.
Project Fusion is the name for the programme to create the new combined NHS Foundation Trust. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will be bringing the services into a single organisation will result in more consistent care, more equitable access to services irrespective of postcode, and a more sustainable workforce and services. The new organisation will operate locally to ensure services can best meet the needs of different communities.
The new Trust will be comprised of all the services currently provided by Solent NHS Trust and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, the community, mental health and learning disability services provided by Isle of Wight NHS Trust and child and adolescent mental health services delivered in parts of Hampshire by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
Colleagues will transfer to the new organisation under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) -- known as TUPE on the day the trust is formed. TUPE is a legal process to ensure you transfer out of one organisation and into another, maintaining the terms and conditions of your employment.

Main duties of the job
- Identify health needs by implementing the Healthy Child Programme in accordance with Public Health Nursing policies and guidelines
- Provide information, advice and support for young people, staff and parents on general and specialist health issues
- Work closely with school staff to advise on Health Education / Health Promotion within the scope of the National Curriculum
- Provide information, advice and support on emotional and personal problems to young people and staff via the referral system to the Service
- Monitor high risk children and children with special needs, in liaison with the Lead Public Health Nurse, and to be involved with the interagency planning and implementation of care
- Home visit as appropriate in line with Trust & Public Health Nursing guidelines
- Update school staff in the following: Asthma, Diabetes and anaphylaxis (other subjects as required linking with relevant specialists).
- Take part in immunisation programmes in accordance with National Policy. Raise awareness of the need for vaccination against preventable diseases through education of young people, including staff and parents.
- Facilitate the implementation of local / national agreed health promotion / education strategies
- Attend 'In Service Training', where pertinent and keep updated with advances and research in nursing and related matters
