Are you a Speech & Language Therapist looking for an opportunity to further develop your skills as part of a dynamic and supportive SLT team, on the beautiful Isle of Wight, situated a few miles off the English South Coast?

This role requires a flexible and innovative Speech & Language Therapist to work within a dedicated Children's SLT team and is committed to supporting children and families with communication difficulties. As a newly qualified Speech and Language Therapist you would be required to provide intervention and support to children with a range of communication difficulties. You would assess, diagnose, plan, deliver and implement appropriate support to meet the identified clinical needs of the child within all their contexts. You would work collaboratively with and provide training, mentoring, and coaching to parents, carers, education colleagues as well as other professionals, ensuring a well-co-ordinated and effective speech and language provision for the children and their families.

Main duties of the job

To work as an autonomous practitioner providing assessment, diagnosis and management to children and young people with communication disorders, within the context of the Children's Speech and Language Therapy team.

To work collaboratively with colleagues ensuring multi-disciplinary care planning and intervention.

To contribute in a timely fashion to the process of assessment and review for Education Health Care Plans (EHCP), Continuing NHS Funded Care, providing reports and attending multidisciplinary meetings as required.

Ensure suitable communications and behaviour at all times, in line with the Trust visions and values statement.

To deliver effective training programmes to parents/carers and Health, Education and Social Care colleagues.

To contribute to supervision and training of Speech and Language Therapy Assistants and students.

Work in collaboration with your colleagues to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare.

To maintain local and national standards with regards to maintaining record keeping, activity data, and caseload management

Qualifications

Essential

  • To hold relevant degree or equivalent, to be registered with the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council), Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and maintain up to date registration
  • Awareness of national and local clinical guidelinesin relevant area -- relating to children with SEN
  • Awareness of national and local clinical guidelines relating to children with communication needs
  • Awareness of Clinical Governance and Information Management


Desirable

  • Elklan training, Hanen trained, PCI/Swindon/Lidcombe trained
  • Membership of special interest group
  • Attendance on Specialist Short Courses identified by Service Lead


Experience

Essential

  • Range of experience acquired through clinical training for band 5 or range of experience at band 5 level to include developmental Speech, language communication needs, reflective practice, in-service training, any courses attended and clinical experience gained


Desirable

  • Experience of clinical supervision of students
  • Experience in contributing to Assessment/Review for the statement of SEN
  • Experience of working as part of a Speech and Language Therapy team and multidisciplinary team
  • In depth knowledge of national and local clinical guidelines in children with SEN and SLCN

  • Willing to work flexible hours if necessary to meet the needs of the service
  • Possession of clean current driving licence


Desirable

  • Able to supervise less experienced Speech and Language Therapists
