We are looking for an experienced psychologist to lead on Mental Health Treatment Requirement (MHTR) element of Community Sentence Treatment Requests in North Yorkshire. The post is for 18.75 hours per week (0.5WTE).

The MHTR is one of the twelve options available to magistrates and judges. Introduced in 2005, the MHTR provides a mechanism to ensure that certain offenders with mental health problems who are given a Community Order are able to access appropriate treatment.

This service is to provide the primary care element of the MHTR.

The aims and objectives of the provision of Primary Care MHTR is to:

• Reduce offending/reoffending by improving the health and social outcomes
• Provide alternatives to short custodial sentences
• Improve health outcomes
• Provide accessible service which enable engagement
• Strive for early sentencing, or as advised by the court
• To provide rapid access to appropriate and effective assessment and interventions
• Delivery services which meet the needs of individuals
• To provide evidence bases psychological interventions
• To be clinically led MHTR interventions

This post will cover courts in York, Scarborough, Harrogate.

Main duties of the job

You will lead a team comprising of one full time and on part time higher assistant psychologists. You will work alongside partner organisations such as probation, the courts and other healthcare providers to ensure the aims and objectives of the service are met.

The role covers the courts in North Yorkshire (York Crown Court and York, Harrogate and Scarborough magistrates) and the base can be negotiated to best suit the post holder.

The role involves the setting up of the service and the oversight and supervision of the assistants who will carry out the assessments and interventions in a timely manner.

The post is initially for 24 months and there is a potential this may be extended depending on funding and the success of the service.

In the event that permanent funding is secured for this post the successful applicant will be confirmed in post on a permanent basis.

The post-holder will be an experienced applied psychologist ideally with experience of research and practice in forensic settings. You will have a proven track record of working with adults with mental health difficulties and substantial experience in the provision of at least one governed psychological therapy (e.g. CBT/DBT/EMDR/CAT/Schema Therapy).

Essential

• Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
• HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
• Post doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
• Trained in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees
• Trained in care co-ordination
• Evidence of continuing professional development

Experience

Essential

• Must have experience of working as a qualified applied psychologist within the designated service including a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and a range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings.
• Must have experience of liaison and joint working with statutory, voluntary and private sector agencies
• Exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care as a care co-ordinator and leader of a multidisciplinary team

• Evidence- based practice relevant to the role

Desirable

• Highly developed knowledge and skills in the care of difficult to treat groups e.g. dual diagnoses, additional disabilities or severely challenging behaviou
