Assistant Director of Health Protection
This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic person to join Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board (BCUHB) within the Health Protection Team as an Assistant Director of Health Protection. The Health Protection Team sit within the Public Health Directorate of BCUHB and provide a range of services across North Wales to prevent and control the risk of infectious disease and environmental threats.
Main duties of the job
The Assistant Director of Health Protection will provide strategic leadership and support to the BCUHB Health Protection Team whose functions include, Infectious Disease, Inclusion Health, Environmental Public Health, Training and Guidance. As part of the role, you will be expected to coordinate a range of health protection functions including programmes to prevent infectious disease (including immunisation, training and awareness raising), organisational preparedness for the management of infectious disease (including the development of pathways and standard operating procedures), the management of incidents and outbreaks of infectious disease (including testing, contact tracing and post-exposure prophylaxis). You will also be responsible for the strategic development, direction, planning and delivery of these programmes and functions, to support the strategic goals of the Public Health Directorate and the wider Health Board.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Job responsibilities
You will require a sound experience of health protection practice in the wider NHS context and have good generic public health skills together with an understanding of effective partnership working both within and across organisations. Working in close partnership with local authorities and the Health Board, the post holder will have operational responsibility for the provision of a safe and effective health protection service which delivers to high quality standards and is responsive to the needs of the local community and partners in the local public health systems.
A detailed work plan will be drawn up with the Executive Director of Public Health, upon appointment, drawing on the key tasks outlined in the Job Description.
The post holder can be based in BCUHB offices in Mold or Llanfairfechan. There is an expectation the successful candidate will undertake proactive work across North Wales with travel across the geographical area and to other sites should be expected.
