Due to on-going investment and a structure review and subsequent expansion of the West London CAMHS Nursing we are seeking to recruit to a number of Band 8a Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist posts within West London NHS Trust CAMHS.

The successful applicant for this vacant position will join the Neuro-Developmental Team, Ealing CAMHS which is based at 1 Armstrong Way, Southall UB2 4SA.

The Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist will also join a thriving team of supportive, committed and skilled nurses who are dedicated to changing the future outcomes for children and young people who present to mental health services.

The Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist will support the Transforming Care Agenda and will work with young people with a diagnosis of ASD who are at risk of hospital admission or family breakdown due to crisis which may be driven by a variety (or combination) of factors, including those of extreme challenging behaviour, mental health deterioration and/or safeguarding concerns.

Main duties of the job

The Senior CNS will work as an autonomous clinician to provide highly specialist CAMHS assessments of children, young people and their families with significant and complex problems in order to formulate and implement plans for the treatment and management of a child or young person's mental health problems based upon an appropriate conceptual framework and employing research and evidence-base. They will also undertake comprehensive risk assessments of children, young people and their families/carers and collaboratively develop, review and evaluate risk management plans. Additionally, the Senior CNS will be responsible for implementing a range of psychotherapeutic interventions for children and young people and their families including running evidence-based therapeutic groups for children, young people and families.

The Senior CNS will engage with statutory and voluntary agencies to develop networks to ensure that the needs of young people with acute, complex, long-standing and/or severe mental health problems are appropriately assessed, contained, and treated, and that the quality of life and competence of the young people and families involved are enhanced during the course of their work. They will also offer specialist advice and consultation to other professionals across a range of agencies including: primary care, social care, and education.

The Senior CNS will offer supervision and line management as appropriate to members of the nursing team.

We are seeking a dynamic, ambitious, and motivated CAMH Clinical Nurse Specialist who has extensive experience working in CAMH Services and is looking to take the next step in their career pathway.

We are looking to appoint a CAMHS Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist who is able to demonstrate a commitment to creative engagement with a culturally diverse population of young people, shows initiative, demonstrates excellent leadership skills, is a team player and is able to communicate ideas clearly to both professionals and young people alike. Ability to demonstrate knowledge, competence and an interest in working with children who present with complex mental health needs is essential for the role. The Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist will also need to be flexible and have the necessary skills and experience to provide high quality care that is both evidence based and client focussed. Additionally, they will need to demonstrate supervision and leadership skills.

Extensive post qualifying experience working within multidisciplinary CAMHS settings and evidence of accredited courses in child and adolescent mental health practice are essential criteria for this post.

  • Degree/diploma in Nursing
  • Professional registration with the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) RMN.
