An exciting opportunity to join Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust as a Senior Management Accountant providing Care group management teams with a high quality comprehensive financial advisory service. Advising the Care group management teams, covering support services and corporatebudgets, on the implications of financial strategy and policy.

This is a great time to join the Trust as we look to implement our recently refreshed clinical and supporting strategies to guide us forward into future years of partnership working and taking the lead in developing services and care for children, young people and their families. More than ever we are looking for closer working with clinical/corporate teams as the Trust rolls out its Value Improvement Programme with a view of how, jointly, we can look to maximise the quality and value of the services we provide.

We are looking for a dynamic individual who can make a difference to work alongside our dedicated Finance team, supporting the senior management team in building an inclusive and diverse workplace, as well as supporting the Trust in achieving our strategic aims.

Main duties of the job

  • You will work as part of the Care Group management team, identifying and challenging on financial issues and providing support to help them make informed decisions about their activities and strategy - so that they are aligned with Trust objectives and the Trust financial plan.
  • Lead on elements of forecasting the year-end financial positions , and development of complex financial plans and strategies to support Care Groups to achieve organisational goals.
  • Oversee the Trusts Vacancy Control process for the Care Group/Service Area
  • Provide expertise to the Care Group on wide ranging aspects of financial monitoring,
  • Support Care Groups in the production of Business cases through analysis of complex scenarios.
  • Oversee the production of monthly budget reports and prepare financial action plans where variance is identified.
  • Support the Finance Business partner and Head of Financial Management with any central reporting responsibilities, delegating tasks to members of the team.
  • Work with Care Groups to develop efficiency schemes, identifying areas to target, testing plans and ensuring delivery.
  • Line manage the trainee management accountant, including responsibility for wellbeing, appraisal, mandatory training, performance and attendance at work.

    Qualifications and Training

    Essential

    • CCAB qualified/Finalist
    • Degree in Accounting/Finance related field


    Desirable

    • Management qualification


    Experience

    Essential

    • Experience of working in a financial management function in a large and complex organisation
    • Experience with using different accounting software
    • Experience in preparing and analysing financial reports, budgets and forecasts
    • Experience of leading a team


    Desirable

    • Experience of working with and advising senior leaders
    • Experience of liaising and working with Commissioners / NHSE


    Knowledge and Skills

    Essential

    • Highly numerate with strong analytical and critical reasoning skills
    • A wide and specialist knowledge of financial and accounting procedures. Be able to demonstrate technical expertise in financial matters following legislation and finance policies
    • Ability to provide advice and guidance on the principles of budgetary control and reporting and explain complex information to non specialists.
    • Ability to manage an extensive and complex workload efficiently
    • Effective and strong financial management and financial planning skills
    • Negotiating and influencing skills with the ability to problem solve
    • Ability to deal confidently and diplomatically with colleagues at all levels.
    • Ability to work on own initiative and make decisions relating to non-routine tasks without seeking approval from managers


    Desirable

    • Knowledge of current key NHSE policies and priorities and their impact on role/Trust.
    • A clear understanding of the financial regime within the NHS and be able to articulate them to non-financial colleagues
