We are seeking a creative, innovative, and enthusiastic specialist occupational therapist to deliver assessment and interventions to children and young people (CYP) with functional difficulties.

This role is a great development opportunity to gain experience in both mainstream and early years settings, within our supportive integrated teams. The post holder will work in a split role, which will offer variety and the opportunity to make a difference in a range of settings.

This post offers great potential for the candidate to pursue specialist interests and develop skills, including opportunities for trainings relevant to the field . To contribute to further development of evidence-based pathways for CYP within paediatric occupational therapy.

The post holder will provide specialist occupational therapy assessment and interventions to children and young people, managing a caseload of clients with a variety of developmental disabilities. The CYP will present with a range of needs relating to self-care, play and school activities.

Main duties of the job

Main job duties:

• To provide specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to children aged 0 - 18 years, within the borough of Greenwich.
• To independently manage a defined caseload of complex cases with evidence of a high level of problem solving, reasoning skills and judgement.
• To provide advice to others regarding the management and care of patients/clients who have difficulties with Occupational performance due to physical, sensory, perceptual or developmental needs.
• To write reports and programmes reflecting specialist knowledge.
• To liaise closely with other services and agencies to provide a smooth coordinated service based on best practice.
• To participate in service development and provide information on issues pertaining to specialist area on a regular basis.
• To provide training and advice for families and carers across all settings on issues pertaining to Paediatric Occupational Therapy.

Job responsibilities

• To perform a Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapy role in the community, with children who have complex difficulties with Occupational Performance due to physical, sensory, perceptual or developmental needs.
• To assess the functional needs of patients in order to develop and implement Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapy treatment.
• Toindependently manage a defined caseload of complex cases with evidence of a high level of problem solving, reasoning skills and judgement.
• To write reports and programmes reflecting specialist knowledge.
• To provide advice to others regarding the management and care of patients/clients who have difficulties with Occupational performance due to physical, sensory, perceptual or developmental disability.
• To ensure that patients and carers are involved in the planning and prioritisation of care wherever possible.
• To monitor, evaluate and modify intervention in consultation with Clinical Service Manager, to ensure the effectiveness of case management.
• To adapt practice to meet individual patient circumstance, giving due regard to cultural differences and diversity.
• To liaise and negotiate with others, for example, parents, Health Consultants, social workers, teachers, G.P.s, as appropriate to facilitate effective case management.

Qualifications

Essential

• Degree in OT
• HCPC registration

Experience

Essential

• Minimum 2 years post registration experience
• Post-qualifying clinical experience in paediatrics

Desirable

• Experience working with Children in mainstream or with complex needs

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

• Knowledge of OT Process and knowledge of OT assessments and interventions relevant to clinical area.
• Ability to work autonomously, set own priorities and manage time effectively

Desirable

• Wide range of knowledge of paediatrics assessments and interventions
