Are you a team player, with excellent communication skill, experience in infant feeding and a passion to facilitate and develop infant feeding support within the NICU?

We are seeking a Band 6 qualified in specialty neonatal nurse to lead on infant feeding support and teaching for parents and staff on the NICU 3 days a week.

The NICU is one of the 3 tertiary centres for the Eastern Neonatal network and part of the East of England Neonatal ODN. The unit admits babies requiring tertiary neonatal care including surgery and neurosurgery.

You will receive training and development in this friendly and dynamic organization which seeks to innovate and strives for excellence. You will also receive a full and comprehensive orientation package and professional support tailored to individual needs.

Main duties of the job

Be a clinical expert with a clear focus on resource on matters relating to infant feeding in neonatal services

Responsible for the provision of high quality, patient focused care to support infant feeding and staff development on NICU

Responsible for facilitating advice teaching and support to parents and staff. This includes the provision of specialist education and training for NICU staff and students.

Take a proactive role in working with the NICU nursing team and the MDT in the development and delivery of the services breastfeeding strategy.

The post will support delivery of the Baby Friendly accreditation process on NICU.

Qualifications

Essential

• Registered nurse/midwife
• Educated to degree level or equivalent
• Neonatal post-registration study relevant to post
• Teaching/ Assessing qualification or equivalent experience

Desirable

• Degree
• Specialist Qualification in infant feeding
• Evidence of Mentorship or equivalent
• Board Certified Lactation Consultant

Experience

Essential

• Significant acute neonatal nursing experience and a depth of neonatal nursing knowledge, integrating theory and practice
• Experience in leading a team or in routinely coordinating a shift on NICU
• Experience as a supervisor to junior staff
• Awareness of professional issues.
• Evidence of expertise in breastfeeding training, including attendance at 2-day BFI course

Desirable

• Experience working autonomously
• Experience in managing a change in clinical Practice
• Experience of managing Safeguarding & Child Protection cases

Knowledge

Essential

• Awareness of professional issues.
• To have a depth of neonatal nursing knowledge, integrating theory and practice
