You will be an Outpatient Nurse responsible for assessing and treating patients with an eating disorder. You will have a caseload of patients and provide physical monitoring.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of the daily duty rota for the service, which involves screening and managing new referrals, fielding telephone queries and supporting the team where necessary.

You will work with other colleagues from Day Services and Eating Disorders Outpatients. You will provide training, consultation and liaison service for other healthcare professionals both within and outside the Trust.

The Eating Disorder Unit (EDU) is internationally renowned for providing best practice, evidence-based care for adults with the full range of eating disorder difficulties. Outpatient treatments include guided self-help, group and individual interventions. We are the developers of MANTRA, now recommended as part of NICE 2017 guidelines for the treatment of Anorexia Nervosa, and of FREED (First Episode Rapid Early Intervention for Eating Disorders).

We offer opportunities for ongoing training and collaboration with colleagues across the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neurosciences at King's College London.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be an Outpatient Nurse responsible for assessing and treating patients with an eating disorder. You will have a caseload of patients and provide physical monitoring.

You will be part of the daily duty rota for the service, which involves screening and managing new referrals, fielding telephone queries and supporting the team where necessary.

You will work with other colleagues from Day Services and Eating Disorders Outpatients. You will provide training, consultation and liaison service for other healthcare professionals both within and outside the Trust.

You will be a member of a number of internal and external professional networks to ensure that care plans for patients and services across agencies are co-ordinated efficiently and effectively. You will work as part of the Multidisciplinary team. You will carry a small caseload as well.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • First level nursing qualification/registration RMN/RGN/RN with current NMC registration
  • Evidence of continuing professional development e.g. relevant training


Experience

Essential

  • Relevant experience of working in an inpatient or community setting
  • Experience of working with people with complex needs and mental health problems
  • Demonstrable experience of working with people with depression, anxiety, psychosis and personality difficulties using evidence based interventions and NICE guidelines.(


Desirable

  • Experience in delivering evidence based psychological interventions


Knowledge

Essential

  • Demonstrates an understanding of how mood, anxiety, psychosis and personality difficulties manifest itself and the impact on mental well-being
  • Ability to work as an autonomous practitioner with an appropriate level of clinical and managerial supervision.(
  • Demonstrates high standards in written communication skill in clear letter/report writing


Desirable

  • Willing to develop therapy skills
  • Understanding of group facilitation
