An opportunity has arisen for qualified plaster technician to join an established team covering services across three main sites, supporting a comprehensive range of orthopaedic and trauma speciality clinics.
The applicant should have a BOA certificate.
The post holder will be accountable for all aspects of care requiring plaster casts/splints/braces.
Main duties of the job
Qualified plaster technician will carry out and supervise prescribed treatments, while demonstrating evidence based practice, and complying with the british ortopaedic association guidelines.
Provide casting and splinting support within clinic as requested while also giving support and advice to the patient and carers to enable optimum treatment and enable self care.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

You will be working in the plaster room being able to work as an automomous practitioner in complaince with local policies and procedures.
Workload will be allocated from clinics, A& E and theatre and the extent of this will differ daily. Therefore it is important to be able to manage your own workload, while ensuring effective and efficient utilisation of resources appropriately.
This role involves working across three sites to cover the needs and demands of the service. Communication is an integrel part of this role by receive complex information from consultants and communicating with patients by providing advice pertaining to their fracture and casting management and to enable them to manage their own care needs.
Interpreting and recording information accurately into patient notes to ensure the correct care is given and acted upon on in future is important as well as a knowledge of the IT systems.
