We are looking for an enthusiastic psychiatrist to join a highly motivated team of Rehabilitation Consultants to enhance the development of the brain injury services within the South of England Rehabilitation Centre (SERC) at the Western Community Hospital. SERC is scheduled to open in Autumn 2024 as two general rehabilitation wards relocate to join our current specialist rehabilitation provision: Kite ward- is a neuropsychiatric ward for managing patients with brain injury, and Snowdon ward for physical and cognitive neurological rehabilitation. Kite ward has previously had sessional input from consultant psychiatrists within the trust but we have reconfigured the staffing model to create this new full-time Consultant role to support development of services within the new Rehabilitation centre.
The postholder will clinically lead the services on Kite ward alongside a Specialty doctor in Rehabilitation Medicine providing joined-up care encompassing both physical and mental health. Kite's approach enables a holistic patient centred assessment and treatment from a neuropsychiatry perspective. Discharge is closely co-ordinated and planned to enable successful return to the community and only when patients are ready to move on.
In addition, there is close working links with neurology, neurosurgical and neuropsychiatry colleagues at the nearby Wessex Neurological Centre, University Hospitals, Southampton.
