Oxford Cognitive Therapy Centre, located in Oxford, delivers training in CBT for all mental health problems to a range of health professionals from NHS and other sectors, including certificated courses delivered in partnership with the University of Oxford. The Academic Tutor (maternity leave cover) will support the delivery of our SMHP (Severe Mental Health Problems) CBT Programme for NHS secondary care mental health staff completing specialist CBT training, funded by Health Education England across the Postgraduate Diploma and Postgraduate Certificate Programmes.

Due to impending maternity of the current post holder OCTC are seeking a suitably qualified individual to cover this post for 1 year from September 2022 to September 2023. The Tutor role supports the trainees in their studies and provides input into the delivery of the training programme. This part-time post requires the post holder to deliver teaching online for the CBT Diploma programme every Friday in term and work remotely for other role requirements.

You will be available from September 2022 on a fixed term contract of 1 year. Due to current restrictions, you will be required to work from home most of the time. There will the need to be available onsite to deliver skills development days at the Warneford Hospital, Oxford at least 4 times in the academic year. As all teaching, meetings, and student support is being delivered remotely for these courses, Tutors are expected to be skilled in the use of digital technologies and video platform such as MSTeams and Zoom.

The primary purpose of the Tutor role is the support of the academic progress of trainees during their period of study. Additionally, there will be involvement in the teaching, planning, marking, and delivery on the course. Tutors must be BABCP Accredited Psychotherapists with experience of non-SMI CBT and SMI CBT.

Working with the OCTC Team, you will collaborate on the design, development and production of the programme and learning materials, delivering instruction and support within the specified CBT/SMHP CBT national competency frameworks, and the course and University policies and procedures.

You will work with other Tutors, Clinical Supervisors (Clinical and Academic) and Programme Leads to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of the teaching programme in accordance with the University of Oxford regulations. You will also contribute directly to teaching in relation to the development of clinical skills and knowledge within the specified clinical area, and to the development and implementation of innovative teaching practices.

Specific Purposes of the Job:
  • Support the CBT Programme Leads with the development and delivery of the timetable in line with the curriculum in specified area
  • Contribute to the assessment strategy including module descriptors, marking process in defined area.
  • Contribute to Accreditation / registration submissions as needed within area
  • Support recruitment alongside the Academic and Programme Lead
  • Provide teaching in defined area as needed
  • Provide individual tutorials to students

About you
  • For a Tutor post you will:
  • Possess a depth or breadth of specialist knowledge demonstrated by post-graduate level training or the necessary equivalent experience and training to support BABCP Accreditation.
  • Possess a good honours degree in Psychology or a related discipline (at least a 2:1 or equivalent)
  • Use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students.
  • Participate in and develop external networks, for example, to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for OCTC future activities.
  • Will have evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review and have made an impact at discipline programme level beyond your own teaching.
  • Be expected to attend formal CPD relating to this programme.
