Dove Ward, Kingfisher Court is a 14 bedded Assessment and Treatment Unit for people with Learning Disabilities and is looking for caring and compassionate Nurses to come and join our team.

As our new Charge nurse, you will be welcomed into a safe and reassuring team, who inspire and encourage one another in being the best version of themselves for the benefit of those we care for.

Main duties of the job

This is a challenging but exciting opportunity that will enable development in specific skills such leadership and communication. This opportunity will be perfect for someone who is looking to work in a rewarding environment where no two days are the same.

Under the direction of the Team Leader, you will provide comprehensive professional and effective leadership, as well as clinical advice and expertise. Working hours involve shifts, including some nights, weekends and bank holidays.

Job responsibilities

In your new role you will:
  • Take charge of the unit in the absence of the Team Leader and should instruct\demonstrate knowledge and skills to junior staff
  • Identify the individual care needs of allocated service users, plan, implement and evaluate all care programmes in conjunction with the units nursing team and the MDT
  • Participate in ward rounds, case conference and other meetings and will prepare reports on service users as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

Essential

  • Relevant professional qualifications i.e. RNLD and up to date registration
  • Management/Leadership Qualifications or willingness to attend Leadership training
  • Education to degree standard or equivalent relevant experience
  • Preceptorship and Mentorship /ENB 998


PHYSICAL SKILLS

Essential

  • Ability to carry out long hours


Desirable

  • Car driver (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010 which prevents you from driving


COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Essential

  • Good Interpersonal skills- able to negotiate and influence effectively
  • Ability to communicate clearly - written and verbal
  • Ability to communicate within a range of health professionals within the Multidisciplinary Team and any other statutory agencies


Skills/Knowledge/Ability

Essential

  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills to have a sound understanding of the clinical and managerial issues involved on an inpatient unit
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983
  • Knowledge of Mental Capacity Act
  • Sound knowledge and ability to understand the importance of Infection
  • PC skills including use of Excel and Access data base
  • IT Skills, i.e., inputting electronic records
