This is an exciting opportunity to establish and develop an in-house employment legal service within the Trust. The service will cover all aspects of employment law and, through direct relationships with colleagues in the People Directorate, the Post Holder will:

Provide legal support on both contentious and non-contentious employment law matters. This will involve close working relationships with the Employee Relations department.
Support in the development of robust employment processes and documentation.
Reduce legal, financial and reputational risk by improving the Trust's analysis, preparation and response to employment matters.
Work with the Director of Legal Services and the Executive Chief People Officer to reduce, better target and add value to external legal spend.
Main duties of the job
Through the provision of high quality, tailored employment law advice, the Post Holder will:
Support the efficient and effective management of resources.
Facilitate the development of improved performance and service delivery across all services and within all divisions of the Trust.
The Post Holder will support the strategic aims of the Trust's people strategy, maintaining oversight and advising of the legal risks and responsibilities in relation to people matters.
The Post Holder will provide employment law related advice, and support development of guidance and policies.
The Post Holder will aim to reduce external legal spend by providing bespoke, in-house employment law advice and support.
The Post Holder will contribute to the wider legal and governance workflows and assurance.
The Post Holder will have access to external legal advisers and will be responsible for managing those relationships to ensure best value and quality, alongside the Trust's People Advisory team. This includes ensuring that legal advice is delivered within agreed value for money.
The Post Holder will contribute to the development of service improvement within the Trust and wider ICS by taking opportunities to give early, solutions focused advice on contentious and non-contentious employment law related matters.

- oQualified solicitor / barrister / legal executive or equivalent legal experience
- oSignificant relevant post qualification professional experience including evidence of continued professional development and further professional qualifications
Desirable
- oIn-house legal experience, preferably within the NHS
Experience and knowledge

- oSpecialist knowledge and understanding of employment law
- oExperience of using written reports and verbal presentations to confidently inform relevant audiences, including Board, Human Resources and the wider Trust
