As a lead specialist in Paediatric Respiratory Nurse, you will be an identified key worker for a patient caseload, accepting referrals to agreed criteria, coordinating treatment and care whilst practicing autonomously as a core member of the Children's Community Specialist Nursing team.

The post holder will be expected to demonstrate a higher level of practice in both direct care of patients and in their ability to plan and develop services to support patient care. Utilising the skills of leadership, clinical expertise, evidence-based practice and innovation, the post holder will facilitate and deliver care, which is patient centered, safe, and effective.

Main duties of the job

• To ensure effective communication is maintained both written and verbally, regarding patients, through close liaison with professional colleagues, both in primary and secondary care, and to develop working relationships with consultants, general practitioners and other support services.
• To plan/organise/manage a defined patient caseload which includes patients with other health conditions such as cardiac, rheumatology or other health needs.
• To work as a specialist, autonomous practitioner and use expert clinical decision-making skills.
• To ensure effective communication is maintained both written and verbally, regarding patients, through close liaison with professional colleagues, both in primary and secondary care, and to develop working relationships with consultants, general practitioners and other support services.

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. Qualifications

Essential

• NMC Registered Children's Nursing Degree
• V300 non-medical prescribing qualification
• Paediatric Clinical Examination Skills CPD module
• Relevant specialty related qualification/module

Desirable

• Specialist Children's Community Practitioner Degree or PG Dip
• Management/Leadership qualification or equivalent
• MSc Advanced Practice/Clinical Masters or working towards
• Recognised teaching/assessing qualification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

• Strong speciality knowledge grounded by extensive clinical experience
• Autonomous practitioner with experience in running nurse led clinics and doing home visits
• Involvement in service development through initiating and implementing change in practice
• Basic knowledge of financial and corporate objectives within the Trust
• Experience of assessing/supervising student nurses

Desirable

• Supervising students undertaking the V300 NMP course
