We have an opportunity for a Senior Pharmacy Technician manager- Dispensary Services to join our in-patient Pharmacy team primarily based at Sunderland Royal Hospital, but with flexibility to work across the South Tyneside and Sunderland Foundation Trust (STSFT) when required. The Trust has invested in modern pharmaceutical facilities including full electronic prescribing with decision support, automated dispensaries and extensive 7-day clinical services to enhance the patients experience of care by improving the quality, safety and effectiveness of their medicines utilisation. Main duties of the job

We are looking for a motivated individual who is team-orientated and shares our passion for improving patient care. You will need to be an experienced Pharmacy Technician working at Band 5 level with a relevant pharmaceutical qualification and registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). You will also need to be enthusiastic, self-motivated and well organised. As Senior Pharmacy Technician you will manage a team of dispensers and work alongside our Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Dispensing Assistants to provide integrated pharmaceutical care for service users in the Trust to ensure safe, appropriate and cost-effective use of medicines. As part of the Pharmacy team, you will be required to contribute to the 7-day rota which includes weekends and late night duty.

Job responsibilities

  • To lead and ensure the effective and efficient management and delivery of in-patient pharmacy dispensing services at STSFT
  • To work with the Associate Chief Pharmacist for Operational services with the lead review of Trust Dispensary services, to improve efficiency and establish greater integration both within the department and within the Trust to meet the changing needs of the organisation.
  • To develop, implement and monitor standards for the service, including ensuring compliance with relevant medicines legislation.
  • To implement and co-ordinate audit and research activities within the dispensary.
  • To take a role in the Senior Technician Group providing support to both operational and corporate delivery of services in the best interests of patients and when required providing cross-cover to other operational Senior technicians.
  • To work in partnership with CHoICE Out-Patient services, ensuring staffing requirements as per service level agreements.
  • To ensure on-going management, training and development of staff within Dispensary services.


Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services and approved underpinning knowledge e.g. BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent recognised pharmacy technician qualification.
  • Registered as a pharmacy technician with General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Recognised Accredited Checking Technician qualification with relevant post qualification experience working in that role.
  • Evidence of continued professional development complying with the requirements as set out by the General Pharmaceutical Council to maintain registration.


Desirable

  • Up to date training in Good Clinical Practice and understanding of clinical trial requirements.


Experience

Essential

  • Broad experience in all aspects of hospital pharmacy, but especially dispensary systems of work at band 5 or above.
  • Experience of supervising, training and developing other members of the pharmacy team.
  • Experience of working with pharmacy computer stock control systems and other computer software including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

  • Demonstrable ability to analyse and overcome barriers in implementation of change.
  • Demonstrable ability to lead and work as part of a team and to motivate and persuade, with a management style which values the contribution of team members.
  • Demonstrable excellent workload and time management skills and the ability to prioritise personal and team workload.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy computer stock control systems and other computer software including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • A general awareness of NHS strategic documents affecting pharmacy.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) to convey a range of subject matter including complex and sensitive material to a wide range of internal and external recipients.
  • Ability to mediate/undertake conflict resolution within the team and also with service users and to manage performance when required.
  • Excellent analytical and judgemental skills to deal with the resolution of job-related problems.
