An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the new Acute Response Team at Yeovil District Hospital. If you are passionate about delivering high-quality care in acute settings and thrive in fast-paced environments, we want to hear from you!

The Acute Response Occupational Therapy Service supports patients in urgent, critical, and acute presentations to regain their independence or find ways to manage activities that are important to them. The core aim of the service is to enable people to be able to leave hospital as soon as possible with or without the need for additional support.

Main duties of the job

As an Acute Response Occupational Therapist, you'll play a crucial role in the provision and development of an effective and highly specialised occupational therapy service within the hyperacute stage of admission. You'll work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide timely and effective occupational therapy interventions that support patients' recovery and enhance their quality of life.

Your new role will focus on utilising your unique professional skills for maximum impact for patients with significant effect to their functional ability within the first 72 hours.

Job responsibilities

  • To provide a high standard of Occupational Therapy specialising in the Care of Older People. Using dual training in both physical and mental health. This may include project/pathways areas of development in frailty, dementia, long term condition management.
  • Provide a person-centred approach to address problems preventing engagement in desired occupations - Occupational Deprivation, and therefore improve functional independence.
  • To advocate for the patient in their choices of occupational roles and participation in activities of daily living.
  • Provide education and support to age well and reduce risk of deterioration in the community and consequent readmission.Increase quality of life years
  • Provide training and support to junior members of the team and wider community.
  • Be able to work effectively in a pressured environment to reduce unnecessary admission of patients into the acute hospital through ED and subsequent acute admission areas.

Essential

  • Degree in Occupational TherapyHCPC Registration


Experience

Essential

  • Experience in decision making and clinical reasoning skills in Acute Occupational Therapy practice.Knowledge in supporting patients identified with Hyperacute Frailty, Dementia, Delirium and Parkinson's diseaseExperience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team


Desirable

  • Experience of Service development, project management and evaluationExperience of working across organisation boundaries in a health care settingTeaching and education experience as part of a clinical role at a regional level
