An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and highly motivated individual to apply for the role of Band 7 Ward Leader, Medical Day Ward in the East Midlands Planned Care Centre (EMPCC)

The East Midlands Elective Care Centre is a stand-alone unit on the site of the Leicester General Hospital, it's been given a multi-million-pound investment to improve care and reduce waiting lists for the people of Leicester and beyond.

The successful applicant will lead a highly skilled group of registered nurses and support staff whilst liaising with the wider organisation to facilitate good quality, effective patient care.

The successful candidate will be dynamic, hardworking and enthusiastic, with proven leadership skills. You will take charge of a Nurse Led ward using criteria Led Discharge.

Applications are invited from individuals with excellent communication skills, who are visible and accessible, and someone who places quality and standards as a priority. You will also need to be flexible, fair, and adaptable to the changing needs of the service.

You will have band 6 experience demonstrating leadership and management skills, as well as being able to establish credible working relationships quickly. The successful applicant will also posses excellent organisational skills .

Main duties of the job

  • Take 24-hour accountability and responsibility for the given area. Be visible, accessible and responsive to the needs of service users, patients, carers and the public.
  • You will be responsible for setting the standards and supporting your team to deliver these, sharing the Trust's values and behaviours, with the patient's safety and experience at the forefront of what you do.
  • Provide direction, effective and inspirational leadership to all members of the multi-disciplinary team within the area for which they are accountable.
  • Act as an expert clinical practitioner providing through themselves and their team an excellent quality of care to patients and service users.
  • Act as a clinical and managerial role model within the theatre team, CMG and across the wider organisation/Division.
  • Take responsibility for the provision of a supportive learning environment for all students on placement and newly appointed staff within the ward/area for which they are responsible.
  • Practice clinically in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for a defined caseload.

Job responsibilities

  • Support and develop new ways of working and new role developments.
  • Find as far as reasonably possible creative financial solutions to expenditure problems and ideas for developments contributing to business planning.
  • Actively engage in the Trusts selection, recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times and information relating to patient / users and personnel is used only in connection with authorised duties.
  • Use health related information only for the purposes of what it is intended for and in accordance with the Data Protection act.
  • Line manage the team, ensuring that all aspects of performance, attendance, training, sickness absence and appraisals are addressed in accordance with Trust Policies
  • Have evidence of attending and contributing to regular Team meetings.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • RN with current PIN No restrictions to practice
  • Recognised teaching and assessing qualification
  • Experienced senior nurse with good leadership skills


Desirable

  • Evidence/experience in change management


Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of Gastroenterology, Oncology or Haematology day treatments or procedures
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Criteria Led Discharge


Skills

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Venepuncture & Cannulation
  • Proven record of leadership


Desirable

  • Relevant leadership course ie Leo course RCN Leadership
