As the subject matter expert in workforce equality and inclusion matters, you will work with stakeholders internally and externally to identify and implement changes to make a real difference to the lived experiences of our workforce and help achieve our strategic objectives. You will build on work that has been started and to ensure that the equality agenda is mainstreamed into all areas of activity. Importantly, you'll work towards creating a sense of ownership and responsibility in all roles at the Trust for inclusion and belonging. You will also be responsible for ensuring the organisation meets its statutory obligations in line with current equality legislation and best practice.

This is a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week but we are open to discussing flexible working arrangements including different working patterns or job share. Main duties of the job

In summary the post holder will:

Provide leadership and expert advice in all matters relating to inclusion and support the development of a positive organisational culture, which values and celebrates our diversity. They will work to the Head of Culture, OD and Inclusion, ensuring that the Trust delivers its People & OD Strategy, including the Colleague Experience strategy, by building people and leadership capability to be an inclusive, fair and supportive organisation. They will act as a specialist advisor for EDI on other aspects of organisational development and culture, ensuring our deliverables and practices are inclusive and support our EDI objectives.

The post holder will take the lead in reviewing, developing and implementing the Trust's Inclusion strategy, creating a sense of belonging for all and focusing on improving diversity of our workforce, improving the experience of work for people in protected groups and eliminating inequality in employment.

They will support the Head of Culture, OD and Inclusion to review and respond to workforce equality campaigns and related work streams, including the Workforce Race Equality Standard (WRES), Workforce Disability Equality Standard (WDES), Gender Pay Gap (GPG), EDI reports (workforce) and other equality benchmarking/improvement frameworks, ensuring the Trust complies with its statutory duties and contractual obligations.

About us

Weoperatefrom three main hospitals -Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well asa number ofcommunity health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threateningconditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitalsprovide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay

Our community services for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve theirhealthand manage their conditions through high quality care,adviceand support.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BA in relevant subject or equivalent


Desirable

  • Lived experience in a protected characteristic

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of implementing EDI
  • Demonstrable experience of proactively promoting inclusion among colleagues
  • Demonstrable experience of designing and delivering good quality EDI awareness raising, education and training to all levels of staff
  • Ability to produce high quality strategies, policies, reports and related communications
  • Excellent project and programme management
  • Experience of leading improvement programmes for staff
  • Evidence of adopting problem-solving approaches to complex issues and situations
  • Evidence of developing policies and procedures based on best-practice examples in the NHS and wider industry


Desirable

  • Exposure to close working with Leadership Teams (or equivalent)
  • Working collaboratively across organisations (through effective networks)


Skills

Essential

  • Advanced analytical and excel skills and drawing conclusions from qualitative and quantitative data from a wide range of sources
  • Developing learning and culture improvement programmes and initiatives
  • Excellent facilitation/training skills to support OD and Culture work on EDI
  • Collaborate effectively with teams across the organisation, including executive leads, staff networks, senior managers and frontline staff
