Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Sister/Charge nurse team on the young adults' cardiac unit (E2). We are looking for an individual, who is a strong leader that is highly motivated and has excellent communication skills. The Sister/Charge role requires a close working relationship with the multi-professional team to ensure that evidenced based quality care is delivered with compassion to every patient.

The young adults' cardiac unit is a 17 bedded unit for young adult cardiac patients ranging from 16 years old upwards. We are the base for adults with congenital heart conditions (ACH) be they young or old. We often care for adults with learning disabilities therefore experience in LD is an advantage with acute care skills a basic requirement.

We also care for the full range of cardiac patients including electrophysiology patients. Our team work closely with the ACH clinical nurse specialists and Consultants specialising in congenital heart conditions.

We are looking for a person with a positive proactive leadership style, a team player who is passionate about developing staff so they in turn deliver a high standard of patient care. You must have significant experience in a relevant speciality, with the aptitude and skill necessary to lead and motivate a team of nurses and allied health professionals, working closely with the MDT. Qualifications, knowledge and experience

  • Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma)
  • Registered nurse on appropriate part of the register
  • Significant post registration experience / qualification / training, including experience and knowledge within relevant speciality
  • Ward management experience
  • Knowledge of current issues within acute Health Service
  • Experience in an acute hospital setting
  • Provide evidence of supporting / managing a range of learners in practice
  • Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical decision making and judgement
