An exciting opportunity has arisen in our department for a Band 6 Midwife to work within the Midwifery Education team to deliver Education and Training to the workforce for 12 months Fixed Term.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 12 Months due to this being a training programme. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts.

Main duties of the job

To liaise with Specialist midwives, Senior managers and Consultant Midwives/nurses as appropriate to ensure that education and training meets the needs of women and midwives and reflects public health initiatives as well as acute service delivery.

Support the delivery of a new programme of MDT emergency skills and Human Factors training alongside the multidisciplinary team to achieve both local and national training objectives as part of The Maternity Transformation Plan and National maternity agendas.

The post holder will work in close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and link with Higher Education Institutions to influence educational strategy and service improvements, to enhance the quality of the practice placement experience and ongoing development of existing staff.

An essential element of the role will be to support the embedding of Multidisciplinary Team skills training according to local, national and professional agendas and to ensure compliance with job specific training for midwives and support staff.

Take a proactive and innovative approach to the delivery of training and the development of the maternity workforce, undertaking or/facilitating relevant training programmes to develop staff.

The Directorate of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology is based at the Jessop Wing which is linked to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The maternity unit has over 6800 births per year and is a Regional Tertiary Maternity Service with a Level 3 Neonatal Unit of 44 cots. A tertiary Gynae-Oncology service and a changing Gynaecology Service, which includes an Assisted Conception Unit, complete the services within the Directorate.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Recognised qualification relating to teaching or supporting learners in practice
  • Educated to BSc level


Experience

Essential

  • Substantial and relevant post-registration experience
  • Experience of providing practice supervision / practice assessment to students in practice
  • Demonstrates understanding and experience of mentor/student assessment processes.
  • Experience of working within teams


Knowledge and Awareness

Essential

  • Knowledge of current issues affecting education in healthcare, including quality monitoring issues and the modernisation of the NHS including the Long-Term Plan and People Plan
  • Knowledge and understanding of curriculum content of pre-registration nursing and midwifery courses and post-registration practice supervisor courses.
  • An awareness of preceptorship courses and requirements.
  • Awareness of the NMC Standards for Education
