The post holder will provide leadership and managerial support within the umbrella of the Cwm Taf Morgannwg Medical Education Department. The post holder will engage with Care Groups, to ensure successful delivery of postgraduate and undergraduate medical education. The post holder will support the operational duties for local educational facilities, ensuring that optimum use is made of local facilities.
Main duties of the job
This post is to support the Medical Education Manager with the operational management of the Education Centre including the revision, maintenance and implementation of local operational policies, health and safety policy, risk management and incident reporting policy. Alongside providing a leadership role for the Team Leaders, they will also act as team Leader on one acute site.

Job responsibilities
- Ensure that all local medical educational activity is in line with GMC, University/Medical School, Royal College and Deanery guidelines, keeping up to date with ongoing national developments relating to medical education.
- Day to day management responsibility for staff within the Education Centres including recruitment, retention, sickness and absence.
- Team Leader responsibility for the staff at the post holders base, including allocation of tasks, holding annual review meetings, approving training as required, ensuring sufficient office cover and ensuring all Centre resources are in good working order.
- Work with the Faculty Team, Honorary Senior Lecturers and Honorary Lecturers to develop and pilot new modes of educational delivery, including e-learning to address the challenge relating to reconfiguration of clinical services. This will require negotiation skills as there may be some resistance to change, and acceptance of new ways of working.
- Collaborate with other Education Centres & Undergraduate centres identifying areas for improvement and sharing good practice. Propose and implement service change when areas of improved practice have been identified elsewhere that can be transferred to Cwm Taf Morgannwg Clinical Education.
- Support the Local Faculty Leads and Foundation Programme Directors on quality and trainee support with the Improving Quality Together for Trainees programme and trainee support meetings.
- To be a member of the Organisations Medical Faculty Team.
- Ensure all event bookings are in accordance with the local Operational Policy and the UHB Financial Control Procedures. There may be a need to cancel or re-arrange events due to unforeseen circumstances, and the post holder will ensure communication of the change to all parties in a timely manner.
- Provide effective and consistent professional advice at a local level on all aspects of medical education.
- Establish and develop external partnerships and working relationships with Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW), Medical School, University and other NHS Health Boards. Arranging multi-disciplinary meetings and events to discuss new proposals as appropriate. Engage with stakeholders within the University Health Board including Care Group Management, teaching staff, corporate services and other healthcare professionals.
- Liaise and develop appropriate networks with other Health Boards to ensure all Educational Supervisors have access to appropriate training, in collaboration across South East Wales.
- Liaise and engage with stakeholders within the University Health Board in relation to the adoption of the Wales Educational Supervision Agreement for all Undergraduate and Postgraduate trainers.
- Develop and maintain relationships with pharmaceutical representatives to assist education and training facilitated by the programme/centre. Ensure all pharmaceutical support is undertaken in line with the University Health Boards Financial Control Procedures, and related Welsh Health Circulars (WHCs) guiding this practice.

- A working knowledge of NHS and financial systems and structures.
- Educated to degree level in a business management related subject, or possess the equivalent level of knowledge training & experience. Evidence of additional training in relevant field, management knowledge, and /or training & experience to Post Graduate diploma level
