We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent Band 8a Clinical Specialist Therapist, providing the operational management to our emergency department, short stay assessment wards and the new Older Persons Advice and Liaison Unit (OPAL).
Applicants should have a background in acute care and the ability to operationally lead an integrated therapy team which spans patient assessment and management at the front door/wards through to onward referrals and complex discharge planning.
The role is being offered on a full-time contract, 37.5 hours per week, which includes maintaining a clinical caseload. This will be across a 7-day, extended hours pattern.
The successful applicant will join a team of 17 members. The service consists of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, band 4 and band 3 assistants.
We welcome applications from both physiotherapists or occupational therapists with relevant experience of leading a multidisciplinary team, managing change and service implementation. Applicants will need to possess a high degree of communication skills and manage highly complex and confidential material appropriately.
From a leadership perspective, the post holder will be professionally responsible and accountable for the operational management of the team. The post will also include service development and resign in line with our community partners, to meet targets for discharge and readmission.
Main duties of the job
To provide clinical leadership for the therapy team working in ED, AAU, SDEC, short stay wards & OPAL unit.
To act as an expert therapist & leader in the field of frailty and in the delivery of pathways in, through and out of the hospital.
To lead on service transformation with emphasis on developing services fit for the future in frailty & reduction of hospital admission.
To act as the lead clinical representative on agreed clinical and service development groups and boards.
To provide highly specialist care of complex patients including extended scope interventions and management.
To provide expert training, advice and clinical education to service providers, service users and service commissioners,
To have a clinical leadership role within therapies and professional leadership role for physiotherapy / occupational therapy.
To be accountable for professional AHP clinical standards, ensuring clinical staff have the skills, knowledge and competence to uphold the quality of clinical services and the continual development of professional practice in line with the HCPC codes and current best practice.
To work collaboratively with the ED, OPAL Unit, Short Stay Wards and SDEC managers and clinicians across the hospital as well as Therapy Leads ensuring delivery of the clinical KPIs for the service and to identify, plan and implement service development opportunities in order to improve the activity and financial viability of the service in line with agreed targets.
