This is a new and exciting role whereby you will be working with the Regional Mortuary Manager in developing, and maintaining a regional mortuary and post mortem service across Swansea Bay and Hywel Dda University Health Boards.
This will ensure the provision of a safe, secure, effective and comprehensive regional mortuary service for the needs of the communities, Coroners and pathologists across South West Wales.
You will be required to manage the day-to-day support and supervision of both the APT and Trainee APT, to hold both the Certificate and the Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology work unsupervised and perform a broad range of duties providing an expert level of theoretical and practical knowledge and experience.
You will be required to apply your knowledge of the laws and codes of practice relating to the Mortuary and all aspects of its function.
Together with the Mortuary Manager you will be responsible for ensuring that full implementation of HTA licencing and regulatory requirements are met and communicate and liaise with clinical and non-clinical Health Board staff, Chaplaincy, HM Coroners, Police and Funeral Directors to ensure delivery of a professional and efficient mortuary service across the region.
Main duties of the job
In this interesting and varied role, you will have responsibility for the day to day line management and supervision of site-based Mortuary Service, providing strong leadership and support to all staff.
You will act as a professional role model engaging all staff across the region in the Health Board values, maintaining patient/relative privacy, dignity and respect at all times.
You will work with the current Care after Death managers across the region, ensuring positive relative experience in all aspects of after life care.
You will share good practice within the Mortuaries across the region ensuring the safety of staff, the deceased and bereaved relatives at all times.
With the mortuary manager, you will have responsibility for the designation and storage of the deceased and be responsible for identifying, and ordering equipmen. You will be responsible for ensuring that standards of the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) licences are upheld for the following:
You will also be involved in assisting the mortuary manager in the formulation of Service Level Agreements in relation to transport of the deceased and the provision of service to both County Councils and the Coroners service.
