This post is based within the newly established RAAR (rapid access acute rehabilitation) service based at St George's hospital. The RAAR service provides 8 Level 1 Neuro Rehabilitation beds for patients presenting with Neurological impairments resulting from traumatic or non-traumatic causes.
The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, management and treatment of their own caseload of patients with communication and/or swallowing impairment as a result of neurological conditions or a range of medical conditions. A significant proportion of these patients will have English as an additional language (EAL). The post holder will be expected to have a sound knowledge of SLT assessment and management of aphasia, cognitive communication difficulties, dysarthria, apraxia, and dysphagia and to have had some exposure to videofluoroscopy.

- Maintain a clinical caseload within the 8 bedded RAAR service
- Provide expert assessment skills and evidence based intervention for communication and swallowing impairments as a result of neurological presentation.
- work as a member of a team providing an efficient and effective service, liaising with internal and external agencies
- work within multi-disciplinary teams providing coordinated individualised management and/or treatment for patients, involving families as necessary and providing appropriate recommendations and training to multi-disciplinary team members.
- participate in continuing professional development and other activities to maintain evidence based best practice
- assist with the work of student placements, provide guidance for speech and language therapy assistants/ therapy technicians and provide clinical support to other therapists/staff on SLT issues.
- The post holder may be requested to participate in research/audit projects in specialist area using research methodology.
- The post holder will take part in the weekend working rota.
