An exciting development opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated nurse to work 37.5 hours per week as a band 6 to 7 CNS development post. The post will sit within the UHBW IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) nurse team but will include an element for nutrition CNS responsibility and will be based in Weston General Hospital.
The post will provide clinical experience at a centre of excellence in the management of patients with complex inflammatory bowel disease. This will be both in an inpatient and outpatient setting.
Main duties of the job
The team assess, review and manage IBD care including medication changes for patients with known IBD, the caseload is in excess of 3000 patients. Patients are referred via GP services and other healthcare professionals within the Trust.
The service/team currently provides outpatient appointments, inpatient support and a telephone/email adviceline service for patients whilst also managing all patients on biologics, approximately 1000 patients, who require blood monitoring review and medication adjustment to meet their needs and clinical results. This includes pre-screening and patient education prior to commencement of biologics treatment. For inpatients the team provide specialist input into treatment and therapy to assist with early discharge.
In terms of the nutrition element of the post, this will include supporting enteral and parenteral nutrition patients and will be supported by the Intestinal Failure team at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.
Both the IBD and intestinal failure teams provide excellent clinical and professional support, growing to meet the needs of these exciting fields of patient care.
