We're looking to appoint three Information Analyst/Governance Officers to work with our clinical teams. It's a fantastic time to join SHSC as we prepare to launch our new electronic patient record (EPR) system and implement a new data warehouse alongside Power BI, supporting us to become an even more data-driven organisation.

We offer a range of training and education opportunities as well as on-the-job training when learning new software or systems such as Power BI.

Hybrid working: our staff work from our head office, clinical sites and work from home, and are also welcome to work in the office full time. Time co-located with clinical teams every week is essential and the successful candidates will need to travel to a variety of clinical sites across Sheffield as and when required.

Main duties of the job

Job Purpose

To develop and use tools to routinely monitor data quality and service performance against national and locally-set key performance indicators and ensure accurate and timely reporting of performance information, including:
  • regular reports to support directorate and commissioner performance reviews and upwards to the SHSC Trust Board/Executive Team
  • regular reporting and ad-hoc information analysis to support local leadership and staff teams.

To extract, analyse and interpret information from a variety of difference sources for operational, strategic and performance management purposes.

To support the community service leadership teams within clinical directorates by providing meaningful, well-presented clinical and non-clinical information to enable the effective and efficient use of resource within the services.

Job responsibilities

Principal Duties
  • Apply an intermediate working knowledge of SQL ability to write complex query scripts and execute stored procedures
  • Rapidly understand complex requests from managers and clinicians, create suitable queries to extract relevant information and explain analytical matters to non-analytical staff.
  • Respond to changing requirements in reporting and assist in ensuring data collection processes and reporting mechanisms are fit for purpose.
  • Interpret information, highlighting trends and/or inconsistencies and undertake further data analysis to investigate any anomalies/issues highlighted.
  • Carry out analysis of data to produce and disseminate accurate and easy to use analytical reports that are fit for purpose and which are presented in the most suitable format to the relevant audience e.g. clinicians, management team.
  • Routinely monitor and address data quality by instigating corrective actions and escalating any unresolved discrepancies, data quality issues or potential breaches to contractual waiting time and other performance targets to the Service Manager/leadership team.
  • Support the service in development of key performance indicators and reports to support service improvement at corporate, service and individual client level.
  • Participate in the development and adoption of dynamic tools, such as dashboards, reports and scorecards, to track performance and generate good management information about the service.
  • Ability to organise, prioritise and manage a complex, heavy workload which includes both regular tasks and ad-hoc information requests with tight deadlines.
  • Assist with data forecasting/modelling and trajectory setting exercises to predict future service performance, identify any areas where underperformance is anticipated.
  • To be proficient in the use of the electronic patient record (EPR) system and accurately extract and interpret clinical data from medical records.
  • To meet deadlines for the completion of national and local data submissions and requests for performance information.
  • To ensure that strict confidentiality is maintained at all times when dealing with patients case-notes and computerised data as set out under the Data Protection Act.

The post holder will have working relationships with information users at all levels across the Trust and with various external bodies, including:
  • Local Leadership Teams, Service Managers, Senior Practitioners, clinical and admin staff within the service(s)
  • Performance Team
  • Other Governance Officers/Information Analysts within the Trust
  • Digital Department colleagues and managers
  • Clinical Operations Directorate Support function (Service Development & Project Support)
  • Information staff from local and national commissioning teams/agencies (e.g. South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB), Sheffield City Council, NHS England)
  • Other Trust services

Other
  • Responsible for continuing personal development in line with SHSC policies.
  • To have an annual PDR with line manager.
  • Provide cross-cover for admin colleagues as and when required across service areas.

Service Development
  • To keep up to date with changes and developments in local and national datasets and identify relevant and suitable training courses and workshops to support service development.
  • To comment on proposed changes to local work processes and systems involving data collection and extraction and participate fully in the implementation of new systems as appropriate.


Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • oGood level of educational attainment to degree level or demonstrated through equivalent experience
  • oQualifications/evidence of a course undertaken in Microsoft SQL


Desirable

  • oDegree level qualification in a numerate/analytical discipline or equivalent experience in an information/data environment
  • oQualifications/evidence of a course undertaken in Microsoft Power BI


Knowledge and skills

Essential

  • oWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular Microsoft Excel
  • oAbility to interrogate, compile and analyse data to produce meaningful and accessible management reports and make appropriate recommendations
  • oClear communicator with excellent writing, report writing and presentation skills capable of constructing and delivering clear ideas and concepts concisely and accurately for diverse audiences, on complex matters potentially requiring persuasion and influence.
  • oAbility to work on own initiative and organise own workload without supervision working to tight and often changing timescales
  • oExperience of data visualisation software Power BI / Tableau / QlikView etc


Desirable

  • oA good understanding of the health and social care environment and roles and responsibilities within it

  • oExperience of working with large data administration systems
  • oExperience of extracting and analysing data to support performance monitoring


Desirable

  • oPrevious experience in similar role in a healthcare or public sector setting
