For the first time Cardiff and Vale Local Authorities, in partnership with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, are jointly developing a team to support and sit alongside young people and their families who are experiencing high levels of distress.The Goleudy Team's core values are: Trauma Informed, Formulation Driven and Attachment Focused. The team will ensure that understanding of young people's needs are centred around: 'what has happened to them?' as opposed to: 'what is wrong with them?' This understanding will determine how the team supports young people and their families at times of high distress.The team consists of Clinical Psychologists, Graduate Mental Health Workers, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, and colleagues from Education. Difference will be celebrated within the team through the promotion of a culture of learning together. In accordance to trauma informed principles the team will receive regular supervision, mentoring, reflective practice, formulation conversations and nurture days.Building, maintaining and growing relationships is key to the team.

Emphasis will be placed on working alongside and in partnership of the existing services within the local authority (social work & education) and health systems. There will also be an expectation to grow further relationships with others within the community.

Goleudy sits alongside the Enfys service in Child Psychology and the two teams benefit from collaboration and cross-working.

Main duties of the job

Under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist, the Assistant Psychologist will Support the Goleudy Team to understand a child/young person's distress psychologicallySupport the system/network around the child/young personOffer support young people and their families in understanding the impact of developmental traumaSupport Clinical Psychologists in consultations with social workers, education staff and other professionals within the Care GroupDevelop psychological formulations and training/teachingEngage in audit and research opportunities as they arise across the serviceAttend weekly team meetings and reflective practice sessions with Enfys. Participate in reflective practice sessions and regular CPD, and team-based nurture activities.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Good degree in a health-related subject (as main or sole subject), already awarded. In practice, this is taken to be at least a 2(1) class degree


Desirable

  • Further postgraduate training in relevant areas of mental health practice and/or research design and analysis


Experience

Essential

  • Significant work experience with people who have mental health problems, including children and young people. (This includes, but is not limited to, paid employment.


Desirable

  • Experience of working with children. Experience of working with looked after children.
