Are you an experienced midwife with a passion for improving outcomes for some of the most vulnerable families in our care?

We are looking for an exceptional midwife with experience of leading a team or the potential to develop this skill. You will be a compassionate and confident professional with experience of safeguarding and an excellent awareness of the need for sensitive communication with service users and other key agencies.

As team leader, you will liaise with other clinical areas and specialisms within our unit and be a confident advocate for service users. You will act as a source of expertise to staff within the maternity unit and support your team members and the wider multi-disciplinary team in order to ensure safety and provide a excellent standard of care.

Main duties of the job

  • To act as Team Leader for the Enhanced Midwifery Team who are working with vulnerable women and families where there are safeguarding concerns
  • Work alongside services in maternity including the Hospital and Community Midwifery Teams to provide an overview of assessments and plans for women where there are safeguarding concerns
  • Provide advice and guidance and safeguarding supervision across maternity services
  • Support practice development and safeguarding training
  • Deputise for the Named Midwife as required

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Midwife
  • Evidence of ongoing safeguarding training and personal development


Desirable

  • Post -registration safeguarding training or Masters study


Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Presentation, training & report writing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written and IT skills
  • Ability to demonstrate extensive understanding of safeguarding principles and their application to practice
  • Ability to make calm rational decisions in the face of adversity
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to consider the wider picture
  • Able to contribute to developing safeguarding practice across the Trust by sharing Involved in supporting projects/practice developments within maternity services 2 lessons learned from audit and reviews
  • Receive and communicate information relating to safeguarding and patient safety, which may impact on the Trust or on an organisation-wide basis.
  • Proven ability to achieve targets and objectives within a demanding and pressured environment against challenging deadlines.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Relevant experience of working in the safeguarding arena as a case holder
  • Knowledge of key practice areas for safeguarding children
  • Experience of managing a team
  • Experience of implementing evidence based practice
  • Experience of supporting service developments and improvements
  • Experience in conflict resolution and ability to be able to escalate concerns in a professional and calm manner
  • Experience of multi-agency/partnership working at practice level
  • Able to interpret and analyse complex and sensitive information
  • Experience of working as part of a specialist safeguarding team


Desirable

  • Knowledge and experience of safeguarding adult practice
  • Experience of working in a community health setting
