We have a rare opportunity for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Specialist Occupational Therapist, to join our Stroke Team based at York Teaching Hospital.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic and developing patient focused our Acute Stroke service. You will be responsible for providing specialist Occupational Therapy treatment and management of patients, providing acute therapy to patients as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

The successful candidate will be:
  • A team player who is dynamic, motivated, forward thinking and has good communication and organisational skills
  • Able to provide support to students and junior members of staff
  • Willing to develop services and identify potential areas of efficiency and improvements
  • Focused on delivering patient centred care, within a professional and caring environment

Main duties of the job

  • To undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients, including those with diverse or complex/multi pathology presentations.
  • To formulate and deliver an individual goal orientated treatment programme, based on specialist knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options, using assessment, clinical reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment e.g. treatment techniques and principles equipment provision and other alternative options
  • To facilitate complex discharge packages and ensure effective communication across agencies
  • At all times you will ensure sensitive and appropriate handling of information in accordance with the data protection act
  • To provide training and advice on changes and adaptations to the patient's lifestyle considering the environmental, emotional, physical, spiritual and social needs
  • To address occupational performance and skills deficits enabling the patient in areas of self- maintenance, productivity, education, and leisure
  • To be responsible for organising and planning own caseload, to meet service and patient priorities. Readjusting plans as situations change/arise. Delegate duties to other members of staff as appropriate
  • To identify work related risk to staff and patients and inform Senior staff as necessary

The role is supported by a Senior Clinical Therapists, and will include participation in the in-service training, clinical and management supervision and will include opportunities for service development.

Person Specification

Education, Qualifications

Essential

  • HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist
  • Evidence of relevant CPD activities


Desirable

  • Evidence of recognised post graduate training within specialist area
  • Practice placement supervisor qualification


Experience & Knowledge Required

Essential

  • Experience in a relevant junior role, including the management of a range of conditions, with evidence of additional knowledge acquired through formal and informal clinical supervision
  • Experience in occupational therapy assessment and provision of specialist equipment
  • Awareness of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy Professional standards for occupational therapy practice, conduct and ethics


Desirable

  • Experience in the use of outcome measures to evaluate occupational therapy intervention
  • Developed / Specialist clinical skills within relevant area

Essential

  • Ability to organise and prioritise
  • Ability to work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to present information, written and verbally in a clear and logical manner
