Main duties of the job

This is a senior nurse position in the Intensive Eating Disorder team. It is a role that includes both working clinically alongside some management tasks.

You will help is leading a nursing team day to day, nurse a caseload of acutely unwell eating disorder patients. This includes shift leading, coordinating patient care and acting as supervisors/ line managers for junior staff.

It involves working in the nursing team offering supervision, support and guidance to junior staff members with their clinical caseload as well as holding your own caseload of patients.

It requires advocating for the nursing team and patients across the multi-disciplinary team, attending reviews

To be a clinical expert and have delegated responsibility for the delivery of high quality patient care demonstrating clinical leadership.

To facilitate the learning of student nurses on placement.

To contribute to the development of policies and evidence-based practice as appropriate.

To work closely with the Sister/Charge Nurse and other nursing and medical leads to ensure the smooth running of the Intensive Service.

To adhere to the Trust's Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults protection policies and act as a resource as required to other departments.

  • RSCN or RMN or RN (Child/Mental Health)


Desirable

  • Relevant first degree
  • Relevant post registration qualification
  • Teaching and Assessing in Clinical Practice (ENB 998) or equivalent


Experience

Essential

  • Post registration experience which includes experience within mental health or acute paediatrics
  • To have worked with young people in acute or community mental health services (which if in Adult Mental Health would include some relevant training or evidence of knowledge in Child and Adolescent Mental Health)
  • To have experience of working with young people with eating disorders
  • To have the ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of facilitating teaching sessions
  • Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults experience and training
  • Experience of supporting and developing junior staff
  • Experience of managing a ward and a team
  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • Experience of risk management / clinical governance / policy and procedure development
