Providing high quality, safe care really matters to us.We're proud that our dedicated people are rated as outstanding for caring by the Care Quality Commission, and through our quality and safety strategy we are making big steps forward in other domains.

Whether it's in our hospital, community or social care services, the safety of our patients and our people matters to us, and as our Chief Nursing Officer you'll be at the forefront of ensuring it's the focus of every decision we make.

We have more than 6,000 dedicated people who are delivering compassionate health and social care in people's homes, in our communities and across more than 15 sites in Torbay and South Devon, and our nurses, midwives and (non-medical) allied health and social care professionals will look to you for professional leadership and guidance. Thanks to their hard work we are one of the 20 best NHS hospital trusts in the country for cancer performance and one of just a handful to have met the faster diagnosis standard for more than 16 months.

You'll lead award-winning teams of nurses, midwives, AHPs and social care workers whose achievements have been recognised and celebrated at a local, national and government level.

Main duties of the job

As our Chief Nursing Officer you will be as committed as we are to creating compassionate, civil and inclusive workplaces where our people feel valued and want to stay, because you know that people provide better care when they feel safe and supported.

You will be responsible for leading our social care agenda, in partnership with the Directors of Adult Social Care, and will lead our safeguarding adults and children's services, clinical audit and effectiveness and infection prevention and control. You will have the experience we need to inform our plan to deliver sustainable transformative care across our large and complex organisation and in our communities to ensure we achieve our vision of better health and care for all.

With experience of working at or close to board level and recognising our role as an anchor institution for the community, you will understand the importance of forging effective partnerships with our people, medical director, care group directors, professional practice leadership team and our system partners to ensure that professional practice is integrated across everything we do. Your ability to develop and maintain partnerships will be critical to drive the change we need.

About us

Why Work With Us

We're part of the government's new hospital programme, and our multi-million-pound investment in our new acute medical unit, endoscopy training centre, day surgery and eye surgery unit and radiotherapy centre are helping us to reduce the time people are waiting for care and improving their experience of our NHS.

Our exciting plans to deliver our new electronic patient record by 2025 will be a game-changer, helping us to transform the way we share information, deliver care and improve efficiency across Devon.

We have a national reputation for our work to retain our midwifery workforce and take our responsibilities as an anchor organisation to grow our local workforce seriously. We are the first NHS trust in the South West to partner with the Open University to offer an exciting nursing degree which gives people in our community the opportunity to study closer to home and complete their clinical placements in our acute and community settings.

We believe passionately that the best way to care for people is by focusing on what matters to them, involving them in decisions about their care, and providing personalised integrated care, close to where they live. Our preventative services, including our award-winning maternity smoking cessation service, are empowering people to take control of their health and wellbeing, reducing inequalities in our communities, and giving children the best start in life.
