Are you an experienced Paediatric Critical Care Nurse seeking a new challenge? There is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated nurse to join our Paediatric Critical Care management team.

If you are on the Paediatric Critical Care course you can apply for the job and be appointed once you have achieved a pass of the course.

We are a 14 bed Paediatric Critical Care Unit comprising 8 Paediatric Intensive Care beds and 6 Paediatric High Dependency beds. We care for children under a wide range of specialities and work closely alongside the Children's Medical Emergency Transport (CoMET) service for the East Midlands region. We are supported by the Paediatric Critical Care Education Team and working alongside Nottingham University, providing learning opportunities for postgraduate nurses.

You must be an RN, RSCN or RN Child qualified nurse with substantial experience working in a Paediatric Critical Care environment as a Band 5 nurse. You must hold a recognised Critical Care qualification and Mentors and Assessors qualification. You will be expected to lead a team, deputise and co-ordinate care on the Unit in the absence of a Band 7 Sister.

You must demonstrate excellent organisational skills and be expected to support a cohort of Band 5 nurses.

The post holder will act as Deputy to the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse. They will be required to:

Be an effective leader and role model and regularly take charge of the Unit, ensuring that the standards and quality of care given to patients, together with the environment in which care is delivered, are maintained at a high standard.

Provide regular direct clinical care and utilise experience to support the implementation of both clinical and non-clinical governance.

Support a cohort of Band 5 nurses, carrying out yearly appraisals and ensuring staff training is up to date.

The post holder is required to be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council

Nottingham Children's Hospital is set within the vibrant city of Nottingham known for its many historical sites. The Children's Hospital is housed within the Queen's Medical Centre campus and has 116 inpatient beds across 8 inpatient wards covering all specialities.

We are a major trauma centre, and the Children's Critical Care Unit works closely with the Emergency Department in providing front line care for trauma patients. Nottingham Children's Hospital Critical Care provides an essential service for Neurology/Neurosurgical Spinal/Orthopaedic Oncology/Haematology Respiratory General Surgery and Rheumatology. The Hospital is also a provider of paediatric renal services for the region, which allows staff on the unit to be actively involved with kidney transplants and haemofiltration.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • NMC registered nurse
  • APLS/EPALS or place booked
  • Paediatric Critical Care Course PCCCS accredited or equivalent


Desirable

  • RN Child Branch


Experience

Essential

  • Significant post registration experience
  • Supervision and precetorship of staff/students
  • Evidence of link role/project work
  • Experience of providing feedback
  • Ability to manage team coordinate and escalate appropriately
  • Registered Nurse any branch
  • Experience within speciality level 2 and level 3 critical care


Desirable

  • Supported role development initiatives through evidence based practice council
  • Demonstrate evidence of supporting change in practice
  • Experience in audit or research
  • Registered Children's nurse


Skills

Essential

  • Efficiently and effectively convey sensitive information in an empathetic manner to patients, relative/carers and staff
  • Demonstration of team working and ability to work within a team
